112 - Accuso

Interrupting the white haired man's train of thought, Anthony Rester burst through the door. "There was a note attached to the pizza guy's clothing!"

Hearing nothing more than the stopping of toy cars, Rester continued. "I can't decode it. You probably can." He handed it to Near.

Commander Rester awkwardly left the room. Near began decoding it right away. He noticed that there were no numbers higher than twenty-six. That hinted the numbers were equivalent to the letters of the English Alphabet.

"Crap! I've misplaced my Death Note..." Whined Sidoh the shinigami.

"Again, Sidoh? Why does the Shinigami King give Death Notes to irresponsible shinigami like you?" Deridovely cackled. "Maybe you'll finally die."

Sidoh looked at him in fear. "I've gotta get my notebook back!"

The other shinigami looked at each other. "Well, we know where you're headed." Laughed Armonia Justin Beyondormason.

"Where?" Sidoh answered as clueless as ever, like usual.

Ryuk flew down to the shinigami circle. "The human world, ha-ha!~"

Something peculiar started to spring up once again.

People who were doing live interviews would collapse. Banks lost hundreds of dollars. Crime was lowering...

Criminals were dying of heart attacks.

Was Kira back? This plagued the headlines. Yes, it had been five years since the end of the main Kira, Light Yagami. It had only been three years since the end of Cheap Kira.

Who was this person, and what were their intentions?

Near had solved the code.

MY NAME IS ACCUSO. I WANT THE NAME OF L. This was the code that Near had spent minutes solving.

The detective summoned the former SPK members. Legos fell all over the floor, causing a danger to anyone who was barefoot. Looking at them each individually, Near spoke in a low, monotone voice. "Giovanni, Lidner, Rester." He started building with the tiny coloured pieces. "We're dealing with another Kira."

The detectives' faces' showed solemn looks. They would have to go through the same hell they had faced five years ago all over again.

Giovanni was the first to respond. "Near, I'll make every effort possible to trace them."

Lidner was next. "Me too."

"I'll do whatever I can to help." Rester responded.

The detectives left to do their duties.

Later that day, Near received an urgent call from Rodger. "L, there's a person claiming to be Kira on Sakura TV. They want to talk to you, otherwise they'll kill everyone there."

"All right." Near switched to his voice randomizer.

He intercepted Sakura TV's broadcast. "Greetings to all viewers of the world. As you know, many people have been dying of mysterious deaths over the past couple of months. This person is no other than Kira." He paused as he conjured his next statement. "Like the Kira from many years ago, he is a vicious monster. Do not underestimate him."

Near's speech was interrupted. "Thanks for all of the credit, L! I do enjoy the fact that I finally get to meet you." A voice hissed. "Dear world, I'll kill you all if you aren't careful. Obey me. Everyone who works at Sakura TV is currently hostage. L, if you don't meet my demands," The voiced laughed. "I'll kill them all!"

I can't risk all of these people dying. It'll drag the name of "L" in the mud. Near sighed. "So? What do you want?"

"You already know." It laughed.

The name of L. He wants the name of L. "You know good as well that you aren't getting that. Another thing," Near smirked. "I know your secrets as well as you know mine."

"Oh, flatter me. L is known for bluffing. Listen to me, world. This isn't the L you all know and love. This one is nothing but a fake. Haven't any of you noticed a difference?" It laughed again.

"I don't want to call you Kira. How about we go with your original name, Accuso?"

"Considering the fact we haven't accomplished anything, I'm going to kill some of the hostages now." The camera switched to the current staff of Sakura TV in fear. Five people started collapsing as the audio made the sound of Accuso laughing in the background.

The screen switched back to a fox. "Here me out, world. My intentions are far greater than that of the previous Kira. Let me right it out for you, I'm Accuso, not Kira, as L mentioned before. I detest being called Kira, because like some of you, Kira took someone very precious to my heart."

The broadcast ended.

As if on cue, Near clicked rapidly on his computer. A fox appeared on his screen.

"How the hell did you contact me?!" Accuso's voice screamed.

"By calling Watari, you left your server open."

Silence.

"Accuso...such an interesting name. I take it you know the origins behind it?" Near sighed.

"Yeah. I chose it, now didn't I?" He paused. "I'm starting to learn more about the Kira investigation. Such as, the previous Kira made multiple mistakes."

"By threatening people so early in the game, you yourself have already ensured a target on your back."

"Whatever, like I care. All I need to do is get YOU killed." It laughed.

"You do realize you've given me many pieces to this puzzle?"

The connection stopped.

Near decided this person wasn't going to be much trouble.

This would be proved false later on.
