Haven

I paced the floor of the motel waiting. Six hours. I'd never thought I'd say thank God for Lucy but she was a rock. The kids had taken to her and she quickly took charge over them and everyone else. When we exited the tunnel there was no one waiting for us. Almost too easy. We heard the blast as we made our way through the woods the rest of the way towards the road. Dante wanted to bring us straight to Devils Blood territory but I wasn't leaving without him. No one argued, but I knew they were nervous. While it was known the men were from the cartel no one could think of any reason for their attack except the escaped girls. They had been set ahead to Meza and DB territory. I froze at the sound of a motorcycle outside. Dante had ridden out earlier to check the roads. Unfortunately it was just the Mezas switching guards for the night. "You need to lay down. If you keep pacing I'm going to shoot you." The voice came from a tired looking Lucy, who had Cade cradled next to her sleeping. "He's your son. How can you be so calm?" Lucy sneered and scoffed. "Listen here. I may have made a mistake about you in some ways but that doesn't mean I like you anymore than before. You may not have slept with my husband but you are screwing my son. But don't think that gives you any rights to where he is concerned. There is no bond stronger than family and I protect mine at all costs. Just because I'm not up walking the floor into dirt doesn't mean I'm not dying inside with every hour that passes! So sit the fuck down! You want to be worthy of my boy then learn to hold it in."
Shit if she wasn't right.

Hazard
The minute I closed that door I knew I wouldn't be going through it. They were coming to quick. I grabbed the grenade launcher from under the table. I needed to create a distraction. I set up the launcher and faced it toward the out building. I could hear the cars coming up the drive now. Just before I could squeeze the trigger someone exited the damned outer building, hands raised. For a split second my heart dropped thinking it was Haven. But this figure was male, Dr.Grey? The older man glanced my way as if he knew someone was still inside the house. "What is the meaning of this?" He yelled. I watched on the computer screen as he moved toward the vehicles. "What do you want?" A figure emerged from the last SUV. He was dressed in an expensive suit, his jewelry catching the light of the sun. "Senor. I am looking for my friend. I'm told this is where she lives?" Fuck. If it wasn't the head of the fucking cartel. Id never met Vega personally but as with any enemy I made myself acquainted. "No woman here but my wife! She's at work." "No need for lies my amigo. I want the girl. Your life is of no need to me. Give her to me and I will go." "I told you...." Bang. First shot hit him in his leg. The cartel didn't waste time negotiating. Or being lied to. They knew Haven was here, or at least they thought she was. The doctor took two more shots, one to his shoulder the other to his side. Fuck. "Search all the buildings. Find her!" I had to make a decision find a hiding space and hunker down or fight back. Fighting was a death sentence and there was no way I could help Dr. Grey if I was dead. But I wasn't leaving him. Quickly I moved through the house silently. The guest room would be the least suspicious. Crouching down I felt the passage way I had found earlier. The house was full of them. All I could do now was wait and see what would happen next.
3 hours later
They'd found the tunnel. I knew that they'd be too late though. It wasn't long until I heard cars start back up and I dared to venture out. Taking out my knife I noticed that it was getting dark. The Doc would probably have bled out by now but I had to check regardless. He'd sacrificed himself for Haven. Given her time to escape. I knew there were men still here. Vega would be stupid not to leave someone. I just didn't know how many of them or even where they were. Honestly I didn't even know for sure what her they were talking about that they wanted although I had an awful feeling they weren't here for the girls we'd rescued. Noise came from Havens room as I approached slowly. I counted two for sure. "Tell me again why Vega wants this chickas room done? I mean no pussy can be worth all of this?" I noticed the faint smell of paint and urine. The fuckers were trashing the room. "I don't know. She fucking must have a pot of gold down there. Not that he needs it. Got loose from him or something." I quickly ducked into Melodys room as I heard approaching footsteps. "What the fuck are you two doing? I said trash the room not fucking sniff her damned underwear!" Fuck I wished for a gun right now to ride the world of three less sick fucks. "Ah. You think I can take these with me? Thing Vega would mind?" "Stupid. Vega catches you talking about his wife like that he'll fucking rip your balls from between your legs and shove them up your ass! Now let's go. The doc is about dead anyways. Bomb is set and we need to clear out."
Wife? Haven? Vegas wife? What the fuck?
I didn't have time to think too much on it though. If the doctor was still alive he wouldn't be for much longer. And neither would I if the sound of running down the hall implied anything. I slipped down the hall and toward the back door. As I moved around the building I saw the men getting into another dark SUV and speeding off. The doc was still on the ground out in the open. I made a mad dash and prayed they couldn't see in the fading light. "Doc? You still with me?" I felt a small pulse and threw him over my shoulder. We had to move. Now. "Hang on to your guts Doc. We're getting the hell out of here.
