Chapter 5

River's Birthday

River's P.O.V.

Today is my birthday! And my friends are coming!

I jumped out of bed and got dressed. I put on black joggers, a white Star Wars shirt, and black low top converse. I put my phone in my pocket and ran out the house. I didn't want to be bothered by the other human beings that live in my house.

I looked at the text Toby sent me last night.

Toby: We will be there early. We will be checked into your school and make sure we have the same classes as you. You don't have to worry about getting us from the airport. See you soon.

I was so happy. I don't think I've been this happy in a while. I then felt my phone vibrating and I picked it up without looking at who it was.

"Hello?"

"Happy birthday sweetheart!" My dad yelled through the phone.

"Oh gosh!" I tripped over nothing,"You made me trip over nothing!"

I heard my dad chuckle,"Sorry Riv. But I have a present for you."

"And what is that?"

"I got you your own place! In New York!"

"Really? Where? Why?"

"Yes. I'll show you where after school. And because I wanted to get you away from your terrible mother."

"Wait...you're in New York?"

"I will be in a couple of hours. I'm boarding a plane in thirty minutes."

"This might be the best birthday ever."

"I'm glad it is."

"Cool but I have to get to school. I'll see you later, bye."

"Bye." He hung up.

I speed walk to school because I'm so happy.

I get inside and I notice that I didn't bring my backpack. I shrugged. Guess I won't be doing any work today.

I entered my English 4 class and sat down. Tiara and Rylan came in together and looked around the room. They landed on me and big smiles appeared on their faces.

I got scared.

What's going on?

"Happy birthday River!" They yelled and somehow a big poster popped up in their hands and confetti is floating everywhere. Everybody around was clapping and cheering.

Wondering what my face looks like?

It looks like I just seen someone eat dog shit.

Tiara and Rylan looked at me and burst out laughing. "Your face is hilarious!" Tiara said.

I poured and crossed my arms like a little kid.

"Aw poor River but we have good news. There are three new hot guys moving into our school today. Maybe you can get with one of them." Rylan said lifting his eyebrows.

"Ew do you realize what you just said? That would be disgusting."

"What? I'm not understanding. Are you gay?" Tiara asked, looking confused.

"You'll understand soon." I said and actually paid attention to class.

There was a knock on the door and then my three friends came in. "We have three new students today. I'm not sure if you want to introduce yourselves but it would be nice if you did."
