Chapter 1
"Jayson...Jayson!...Stop that" Joey giggled. Jayson stopped nuzzling her neck to smirk and peck her cheek. She smiled and pushed him away, but he just wrapped his arms around her waist so he didn't move. She squirmed a bit before giving up and leaned back against his warm chest. He grinned mischievously when she calmed down and started tickling her until she couldn't breathe. She managed to gasped out a stop and he smiled down at her to peck her on the lips.
I laughed at them while my best friend blushed. I glared back at the students of the hallway and they turned they're eyes back to what they were doing. They were all jealous of Joey because she hooked up with Jayson. He was kind of popular with the school's female population, but he was faithful to Joey. My friendly tip might have scared him a bit as well... I grinned as I remeber what happened when I heard that Jayson asked Joey to be his girlfriend.
***Flashback***
I looked up as my phone started buzzing on my nightstand. I saw Joey's picture flash four times and ran to my desk to pick up my phone before it sent her to voicemail. She never calls so this has got to be something big. I clicked the green answer button and almost went deaf from the high-pitched scream that vibrated through the phone. I winced and pulled it away from my ear, not wanting to lose anymore brain cells.
I waited until she was done screaming to put the phone back to my ear and then I asked in a normal voice, "Why are you screaming?" She started to breathe loudly like she was trying to get her breath back. After a minute, she finally answered, "Jayson asked me to be his girlfriend!" I grinned widely, but froze when I thought about the girls at our school who would go crazy to be with him and do anything to split the two of them apart.
I told Joey that I was excited as hell for her before telling her to put Jayson on the phone. She mumbled an okay before switching it over. I heard Jayson's deep voice say hello before I turned all mama bear on him.
"Jayson, you listen here and you listen good. This is my best friend we're talking about now. I know how you act around other girls and I know how they act around you. If you even think about hooking up with some slut because Joey's not giving you any, or if you think about banging her and leaving, or anything remotely related to any kind of pain that you could cause to her, I will personally hang you by your balls, cut off your penis, choke you with it, and leave you there to rot. Now do we have an understanding?"
I heard him gulp and could almost see the fear that flashed across his face. He replied a yes in a horrified voice and I hung up happily. Now that that was taken care of, I jumped back onto my bed and got back to studying, trying to keep the smile off my face. I was so happy for my best friend and Jayson better damn well know that I'm serious.
***End of Flashback***
I tried to ignore the harsh glares and walked to my locker to grab my books. Unfortunately, the lovely (sarcasm) Cody Johnson was standing in front of my locker. I glared at him and threw open my locker door hoping to hit him in the face to get my point across, but of course the wide reciever of the football team would have better reactions so he caught the door, right before it hit him in the nose. I groaned in annoyance and just ignored the prick. He started talking, but I zoned him out and started grabbing my stuff out of my locker.
He rambled more and more until finally couldn't take it anymore. "What the hell do you want!" I yelled at him, trying to show how exasperated I was. He smirked at me and leaned in close to my ear. I felt his cool breath tickle my ear, but payed no mind to it. He whispered in a husky voice, "You." I pushed him away and walked off. He has been trying to get me to go out with him for the past year, but everytime he asked I rejected him flat up. I wasn't being mean and it wasn't like he actually wanted to date me. I've seen him with all his girls and there's never emotion in his eyes when I reject him.
I started down the hallway and growled lowly in my throat when he stepped in front of me. I tried to walk around him but he just jumped in my way. I heightened my glare at him and he smirked wider. "Fuck off" I growled. Cody crossed his arms which just annoyed me further. I shoved him to the side and my eyes almost popped out of their sockets when he flew into the lockers and slumped down unconscious. I stood there stupidly for a mintue before grabbing my bag off the ground from where I had dropped it and ran to my next class like the hounds of hell were on my tail.
I entered the room right as the bell rang so I let out a sigh of relief. I really didn't want to deal with detention as well today. I grinned and stuck my tongue out at her with my eyes scrunched when she wasn't looking. When she turned to look up at the laughing of the class, I whistled and walked to my desk like nothing happened. She glared at me silently and got started on the lesson.
After a horrifying fifty minutes of class, the bell finally rang, making everyone in the room let out a sigh of relief; even the teacher, she wasn't much of a people person. I ran out of the room and down the hallway to get to the gym. I saw that the door was clear and rushed foward. Out of the corner of my eye, a sprinting Joey appeared, her gym bag bouncing on her arm. I noticed that I was closer and poured some more speed, having to make it there first.
Just as I was about to touch the door handle, a hard body showed up in front of me, knocking me on my butt and allowing Joey to reach the door first. I groaned in annoyance and pain as I looked up to see who was the douche bag who knocked me down. I saw a grinning Cody and stood up in anger. "You asshole! Watch where you walking and stay away from me!" I pushed him again, not as hard as before and watched him stumble to the side. Joey grinned at me and stuck out her elbow. I smiled back at her and linked arms with before we walked into the gym. We ran off to the locker rooms to get changed for practice.
After we got changed, all the volleyball players gathered around the net and waited for the seniors. The coach normally showed somehow miraculously on time, right after the seniors completed warm up. The seniors came out and we all ran five laps around the basketball court that surrounded the volleyball net. It was just some simple running to get our body relaxed and our blood pumping. Next in the warm up was simple exercises and stretches. By then the coach had gotten there ready to begin practice.
She set us up to a half scrimage spiking drill. One side of the court had the standerd six girl set up, the other had a line of our spikers and back ups. Simply put, the coach would throw a ball up and to the spiker, the spiker had to hit it over, trying to get the ball to hit the ground without the players touching it and the six girls had to try to return the ball. It was pretty easy, but for an inexperienced volleyball player, it could be painful. I was back row with two other girls and we almost always got the hits. It could be painful because the ball is coming pretty face and you have to hit the ball with your forearms, up into the air to be passed back over. I was pretty experienced in the back row so I was used to the discomfort and didn't bother with it.
After volleyball practice was over, Joey and I walked out to the parking lot to go to her house. It became sort of a routine for us. She drove already so I rode with her until my parents could pick me up because I didn't have a car yet. We normally did homework and then went for a swim, or if it was cold outside we would play some Xbox or we'd watch stupid movies on Netflix.
Since it was still warm outside, after we finished up or homework together, we went for a swim in her pool. Well she swam around, I just floated around lazily. It was normal routine and it was fun for the most part. My mom came to pick me up around four and I said my goodbyes to Joey and her little brother. She waved at me with a smile and I waved back from the passenger seat in my mom's car.
I watched as her house turned into a little speck before turning around and turning on the radio. I let the music wash over me and settled into the seat for a little nap.
After a few hours at home and some dinner, I went upstairs to go to bed. I wrote a little of one of my stories before shutting off the light and plugging my phone in. I turned over to face my door like always, but I had a strange feeling, like someone was watching me, but it wasn't in a creepy, "I'm going to kill you" kind of way, it felt like they were protecting me from the things that creak in the night. I shook my head at the felling and just closed my eyes, falling asleep easily.
