Chapter 4

When the day finally ended, Joey met me outside the school so we could go to her house. I think I liked the drive more than actually being at my friend's house. It was just beautiful with all the woods and the animals that come out. I have woods behind my house, but it wasn't as amazing as this. The woods at my house were too close and there were too many houses so all the animals were scared away, but the animals here were used to the road, so they would come to the edge and eat the brush or just stare at the cars that pass by. I loved watching the woods as deer and even the occasional wandering bobcat came to the treeline.

Joey took me in there once, to show me a small hide out that they had constructed in the middle, and I must say, nothing was ever better than that. I've always enjoyed hiking, but I haven't been in a while since my dad started working again. We haven't had time to go to state parks. Sometimes when we didn't have homework, Joey would take me out there again and we'd just wander a bit, always keeping sight of the the treeline, walking over logs and, around ponds. It was so natural.

As I gazed at the treeline, I saw a black shape appear in the brush, right at the edge. I scrutinized it and found a muzzle, high ears, and a snout, with a tail swishing behind the body. My mouth dropped open into a smile of amazement when I realized it was a black wolf. It was amazing. It's fur looked so soft and I could see intelligence in the green eyes that bore into my own. I thought about what I knew about wolves and was pretty sure it was rare for a wolf to have green eyes. The eyes looked familiar, but I brushed that thought away as I realized that I had never seen a real wolf before.

We were at a stoplight and I couldn't keep my eyes away. I struggled to get my phone out of my pocket, and snapped a picture of the magnificant creature before the light turned green and we drove off. I watched as it started running in pace with the car, never going ahead or slowing down. He followed the edge of the trees until the woods stopped at the turn in of her neighborhood. I smiled at it and waved as we turned. I knew it was stupid to wave at a wolf, but I'm weird so it's all good.

All the way to Joey's house, my mind stayed on the wolf. I knew it was real because it moved, but it was just so miraculous that a wolf would even wind up down here. Sure, a bobcat or a coyote maybe, but a wolf? They have great tracking skills and most likely wouldn't be getting lost. I shook my head and turned back to reality to hear Joey and Brandon, her little brother, talking about how school was. I rolled my eyes and turned around in my seat to talk to him.

"Hey, Brandy, are we gonna play some Black Ops when we get home?" I asked and laughed as he nodded his head with an evil grin. He knew he was gonna kick my ass, but it was still fun. I felt a glare burning a hole in my face and turned to face Joey. Her glare could kill me if looks could kill. I gave her a sheepish smile and turned back around in my chair. She glanced at Brandon through the rearview mirror and said sternly, "Someone's not going to be playing video games until his homework is completely done." He groaned, but nodded anyone. They didn't argue much since Brandon go into high school and Joey was more protective of him.

I leaned back in my chair and let my mind wander. I had two big topics on my mind that I couldn't get out; Zavier and the wolf. I decided to think about Zavier. He was beyond hot, he was like a god among men. His black hair that hung slightly in his green eyes, his muscular arms that could protect me from anything, and his amazing eight pack that I felt when I fell against him earlier today. I groaned in annoyance that he was probably never going to like me and that turned my mood sour. I didn't want to think about that right now.

I glanced up and saw that we were home. Brandon had already run inside and Joey was standing in the garage yelling my name. I waved at her and stuck my tongue out before climbing out of the car swiftly. I made sure that the door shut, but wasn't slammed, otherwise Joey would slam me. It took her forever to save up to buy her car and she couldn't afford for anything to happen to it. I was glad that I got to help her pick out her car. We bought her a jeep, just like her grandma used to have. She liked it and said it was perfect for road trips, and I agreed because it would keep me off the ground. I didn't enjoy low cars, they made my butt feel like I was riding the ground. I enjoyed the higher vehicles like jeeps and trucks and SUVs.
