Chapter 5

I stared at the shocked expression on my mother's face, glad I had a one up on her. She always seemed to know something before it happened. Granted they had never met her, but I still expected them to guess that she would change. I smirked at them, but it flattened out into a smile as smiles overcame their faces.

My mother smacked me upside the head and I held it, glaring at her.

"What was that for!" I yelled.

"Why aren't you with her? The change is strange process for someone who has been human there whole life. Plus, since she is still human and doesn't know about mates, you need to be cozying her up to you so she falls in love with you."

I glanced at my mother with wide eyes. I flopped down into the desk chair with a sigh. I forgot that she was oblivious to her heritage. I've only seen her for about a week and I'm already completely in love her. She probably doesn't even think of me as a friend yet, let alone somthing more. I ran a hand through my hair before I jumped up and walked out of the house.

My mom yelled for me to be back by dinner so I sent her an, "okay," through the pack link. I had an idea to win her heart. I didn't want to go all out and embarress her in front of her school even if she was more likely to say yes if pressure by a crowd. I didn't want her to say yes because she had to, I wanted her to yes because she wanted to. I had the picture in my head as I ran with a new resolve.

***DREAM***

I ran and ran, the dark trees passing by me in blur. I heard footsteps in front of me as well as on either side of me. I was surrounded and started to panic. I was sweating profusely and I started to hear the footsteps turn from two to four in a matter of seconds.

My brain went into overdrive and made me think of scenerios that are completely crazy. I ran faster, or at least tried, as of the fact that the footsteps were getting closer and closer.

Right as I was about to see the creatures surrounding me, I broke into a clearing where a large wolf, black as night and gorgous green eyes, just like earlier in the woods, sat staring at the stars. As soon as I burst into the clearing, his giant head turned towards me. I skidded to a stop and turned around to run again, but standing in front of me were three wolves.

The middle one was tan with a black tipped tail, the right one was rusty colored with brown eyes, and the left one was gray with an even grayer muzzle. The middle one looked ready to attack me as soon as I moved, but I could hear the wolf behind me moving. I took my chance and sprinted to the side so I didn't run toward either wolf.

The tan wolf ran at me and was about to jump at me, but a flash of black obstructed my vision before I saw the black wolf standing in front of me in a protective position. He turned his head back towards me for a glance, his lips going back over his teeth from his snarl. It was only a small, quick peek, but during that peek in his eyes I saw love, possessiveness, anger, protectivenss, and determination. Not knowing which ones besides love were pointed at me, I turned around and ran through the forest hoping to come across someone or something familier.

I heard the sounds of teeth snapping, growling, and some yelps of pain before the black wolf appeared beside me. He nodded his head toward me and then at his back. I didn't understand him at first, but when he nudged his head into my butt and stuck his head in between my legs making me slide onto his back, I realized that he wanted me to ride his back so he could go faster. I crouched low and clung on as he burst into a speed so fast, I couldn't even see the trees, just a blur.
