Roller Rink

Chapter 14

Brandon's POV

That afternoon... at the roller rink

Callie is a pro at roller skating. She's been going around the rink forwards, backwards, and sideways for the past hour. I was hoping that I was going to be the better skater, but she's beating me by a long shot. To be honest, I haven't been roller skating since I was 8 so it's been 10 years. A whole freaking decade.

Callie grins ear to ear every time she passes me. "What's wrong old man? Can't keep up with me can you?" I laugh. "More like afraid to fall on my face, but sure that works too." I don't like losing competitions, but if it means I get to see Callie smile like the way that she is now, then it's all worth it. Callie's been through so much the past couple of years. I want her to forget about the past and start moving forward with me.

Callie has two loving families. The Fosters and the Quinns. I was skeptical of the Quinns at first, but they are really good people. They want the best for Callie and give her everything that they can. For example, they saved up a college fund for her. Of course she'll only need to use a small amount of it, but the gesture was a kind one. It's nice to know that her and I can go to college without having to worry about money.

After doing a cartwheel, Callie tumbles into me smoothly. "I'm hungry. Do you want to eat?" I nod and we go to the snack counter. Callie orders a personal pizza and chips and I get a hot dog and fries. The food is out nearly instantly and we sit down to eat. We both moan at the same time. After, we eat in silence, but not the bad kind, simply the blissful kind.
