Chapter 14

"Screw you, like seriously, screw you! Let me rephrase that, that sounds rather crude. The next time you come near me, make sure to turn right back around and shove a knife straight up your a..."

"And that is enough from him." Sonders interrupted Olchi, shoving him out of the way. "My apologies Jay, he's cranky from the whole Apex thing. We all are. So next time, don't talk to him again. Good? Good." Sonders yanked his indignant blond friend away from the now crowded gym.

"No, I want his head on a rusty iron platter with pineapple garnish!" Olchi yelled, trying to jump over his friend who was the same size as him. Instead, he landed on Sonders' shoulder where he stayed as Sonders walked.

"You say one more word on how I couldn't catch the world's most wanted person, and I will personally lobotomize you with a plastic spork!" Olchi screamed, shaking his hands dramatically at the smirking Jay. His handsome face twisted with anger as he threatened to hurt the boy.

"Calm down, he won't talk to you again. Trust me." Sonders tried to appease his peer, thinking of how he could calm down the hot headed man. Olchi turned his brown eyes to his friend, slightly agitated that he couldn't kill the upstart of a boy.

"That child spoke back to me, and argued about Apex. All of us want that menace six feet under, but some ignoramuses think that he is some sort of god, when really, he is one of the worst enemies we have seen. Sure there have been some worse people, Hitler and all. But come on, he has inadvertently killed this nation's people and destroyed their homes. All the 'good' he has done is for his own personal gain, or for the gain of his followers." Olchi growled while throwing his arms around. Sonders understood all that he meant, but what could he say? Nothing would ease any Syndicate members minds over The Damnation. It had started to become a taboo or jinx, everyone was afraid to speak of them.

"I wish we could isolate Ryker, then we might have a chance. But, I don't know how to. It was my fault that The Damnation got away, I made Ryker angry." Sonders sighed, rubbing his forehead with his palms. Olchi flinched at the name Ryker and Damnation, Sonders was the only one who could say the names without fear.

The pair sat down in an empty conference room. It was bleach white with gray furniture and a few windows on one wall. The room was very plain with no distinguishing features that made it unique from the rest of the Syndicate stronghold.

Living in a place where war is all you knew was tiring, you couldn't make mistakes and had to do everything according to the rules. Being a child, you were denied luxuries that most children were given. So basically, no proper childhood that you read about in history books and autobiographies from the past.

Theo used to love reading about history. How their lives differed from his. It was intriguing to say the least, but he always found people interesting. That was hopefully the only trait he and Ryker had in common.

Sonders was pulled out of his reverie by Olchi snapping in front of his face. "What were you daydreaming about this time, Snaps?"

Sonders grinned at the old nickname, one from when he was still in the academy and tried to talk to people about how he could electrically scramble the synapses in people's minds. He had a hard time saying synapses, so it came out more like snapses. That was seven years ago. Things don't really change much in Syndicate, just the enemies.
