Chapter 13

The week had been bloody crappy, needless to say, but it was getting better. Nearly all of the kids were sitting at The Bunker. Petra's wounds had healed with all of the chaos flying about. Ryker wasn't stressed at every minute in time. The Damnation wasn't split in two and the Black Jacks were playing nice. Things were fine.

Besides the fact that there were a lot of people trying to take Grace's place, a whole lot of nasty humans trying to show they are more macho than the other. So no one was really outside in the chaos, except for Petra. Her skin would lightly glow from any fights that broke out, eyes would flicker to red when there were shootings. All of the chaos empowered her, making her more on edge and prone to use her power. Also made her pretty cocky.

Petra and Ryker went for a run at five in the morning, another night where Petra couldn't sleep from so much power. The air was fouled with pollutants and rather cold.

Ryker perfectly blended into the night with his dark clothes, especially his favorite black shirt with a large white, 'NO', printed on the front. Harper gave him his own head coverings, barely even showing his eyes. There was some stubble on his face, and he hated it. It made him look too old.

The two ran in sync, Petra just a bit faster than him with all of the chaos. Her eyes haven't changed back to their golden color ever since a mass shoot out happened three blocks away from them in the abandoned rubble of a strip mall.

The two ran to a polluted sludge of a pond, a mound of tires right on the edge. Ryker was the one that had to take a break, simply because his energy was nearly depleted.

"You've gotten faster." Ryker wheezed, plopping down on a large tire. He pulled down his coverings, Petra following his lead. Petra chuckled lightly, using her enhanced sight to look at her surroundings.

"I really love all of this chaos, it's enticing and exhilarating." Ryker frowned lightly at her seeming addiction to her own power. Ryker didn't blame her, he was severely addicted to lighting and electricity. Feeling the magnetism in the air, oh if he could suck all of the electricity and hail lightning to himself, he could lay waste to the whole North American continent.

"Yeah, I know the feeling. But it can be dangerous, getting consumed by your own element. Just, make sure you are in control. Remember your anchor." Ryker said kindly, smiling and patting the seat next to him. Petra sighed deeply and sat next to him, watching as birds fly across the sky.

"So, tell me about the secret to that necklace?" Ryker asked carefully, glancing at the golden necklace.

"Oh, yeah, forgot to explain that to you. Well, each small bead marks a person I killed. Jerker thought it would be a good way to commemorate them. The pendant has a fox surrounding two signs of chaos. It's kind of twisted, but, it helps me never forget." Petra explained, holding her main pendant in her hand.

"Have you ever have a girlfriend?" Petra asked, having a new sense of confidence about herself. With all of her chaos, she felt invincible.

"Yeah, her name was Cindy, we were in second grade. I gave her a Jello cup and we 'dated' for a week." Both laughed a bit at his 'girlfriend'.

Ryker blushed a bit and tapped the end of his nose. "Um, no, not really. I've always been a bit busy, not had the time to maintain any half-stable relationship with anyone. All I've really had time for was The Damnation. Have you had any boyfriends?" Ryker coughed uncomfortably.
