"You die? What... what do you mean you die?" I ask, startled.
"Everything that happened to you happened to me. Do you remember how dad left? He was here. Just like I was. And this is the part where he dies. Where I die, then." He says rather calmly.
"What? W-why are you so calm about this! You cant die... Not yet, I just got you back..."
"Its okay, itll be fine."
"No it wont be."
"I need you to listen to me," he says, lifting my chin to look him in the eye and wipes a tear off of my cheek,"It will be alright. I'm not important, whats important here is that you, and everyone else, gets out alive. You have to win. You have to. For me. For dad. End this."
I don't know what to say, instead I grimace and look down, confused and distraught. Five minutes ago we were together and crying tears of joy, and now those tears are out of sadness and fear. I cant loose him, I just got him. If I got out of here alive, without him, without Ashton..I wouldn't be able to live with myself.
"I cant do it. If you die here, so do I."
"Yes, yes you can do it. Its easy. Come on, stand up." He says, rising to his feet eagerly.
"Why are you so calm about this! Your about to die! And all you can say is 'lets go'? Whats wrong with you?!" I say, shrinking onto the floor.
"Its because I dont give a shit about what happens to me anymore! He made me do it... he made me do it all... it was never your choice, or Justin's. It was all mine."
"What are you talking about? You sound insane!" I say shakily.
"The games! The trials! It was never up to you who wins or dies! I killed them all, all of them. Just so you could live! Abby... you have to understand. I did it to protect you, your all that matters to me."
I push up from the floor, in shock. Anger and fear rush through my veins all like once sending waves throughout my body. I don't know how to react, was it his fault? Was I destined to be here to beat the game. But then again I was never really playing, I was just a pon in the game, and he was moving me left and right killing all of my friends.
"You killed them?" I asked.
Tears welled up in his eyes, and his expression turned into one of confusion, not by what I was acting but the realization of what I was saying was true. He had the power to kill me, and I bet he knew damn straight that if he killed them I would never forgive him. He knows I would rather be dead than them.
"Yes, I did," he says, choking the words out,"and Im sorry."
"Yea, well, sorry isn't good enough."
"Then what is?" he asks, walking closer to me with the look of desperation on his face.
"Explain it to me. Everything. I need to know." I say, fighting back the tears. Now wasn't the time to cry, now was the time for answers. And I was going to get them.
"Okay, okay. The first trial; the one with the rifle. I had the key remote to the lever set up... So all I had to do was press a button and it would go off. I had to throw the radio in there, and if I didnt he would kill you."
"Well isnt that the whole point of this devil's game? To get people to die? And how would he do that, if you had the key remote to the gun?"
"The drink he made you drink, its filled with toxins that are remotely connected to a button in the control room, where we control all the games, and the metals and salts inside the drink would automatically combust as soon as he pressed the button. Its worn off now, so the only way you can die is by me choosing you. And I'm not gonna do that. I would never be able to do that."
"I need you to."
Surprise crosses his face, yet again,"W-what?"
"I need you to choose me, in the next game, if its me between Ashton or anyone else. I dont care."
"I cant."
"Yes. Yes you can, because if you get out of here alive and so do I you better not be thinking we can move past this together. I hate you. You killed my friends. My family. You choose me or the second we get out of here I kill you." His face droops down.
"Okay."
"Promise me."
"I do."
And I stand up and walk into the next game, dragging my hated brother behind me.
