"sure it'll be fine with her?" i asked.
"of course." luke smiled.
we drove to his mom's house and she was pleasantly surprised to see us.
"tessa, dear! what a pleasant surprise! what brings you here? don't tell me luke aint treating you right i'm gonna whoop his ass when i find out he is."
i laughed. liz is always like this when we visit. it's like she loves me more than luke lmao.
"so, uhm, can i ask you a question? it's like, for my project." i said.
"well sure! what is it?"
i pressed record.
"in the eyes of a mother, what is love?"
she thought for a while. "well, love is unconditional, really. when i first saw luke i was sure i was going to love him regardless of what he is or what he'll become. all i could do is guide him, but, whatever kind of person he'll turn out to be, i'm still going to love him."
i pressed stop and wondered if my mom felt the same about me. or even my dad. eh, i dunno.
"thank you so much for this." i said politely.
"don't sweat it! anything for my future daughter-in-law."
"what?"
"nothing."
