The warm sunlight streamed through my window as my eyes fluttered open. I rubbed my tired eyes and forced myself to sit up. Biting the smile on my lips, I walked over to the french doors that let out to a small balcony. The cool fall-like air blew my wavy blonde hair away from my face as I leaned over the ledge. The first night we met was honestly like a dream. We had talked for hours, never an awkward pause. Around 2am, Ryan drove me home and walked me to the door. Since my parents weren't home - like always - I invited him and we sat in the living room drinking hot chocolate and watching the Spanish channel. Neither of us know much Spanish, so we just kind of made up a storyline. At 4, I kicked him out. He pleaded and begged to stay "5 more minutes".
"Ryan, you have to go." I said, smiling as I had one hand on the door and gently pushing him out with the other. "It's already tomorrow."
"Pleeeeaaassee?" He had asked, his warm brown eyes widening to make him look even cuter. I rolled my eyes playfully and stepped closer to him so that we were chest to chest.
"Go home, Ryan." I stood up on my tippy-toes and placed a gentle kiss on his lips, but right as I was about to pull away, his cupped my face in his hands, kissing my so deeply he took my breath away. After a couple seconds, we both pulled away breathless. I smirked at him and turned him around, pushing him gently to his truck.
"Don't make me call the cops." I teased, leaning on his car door after he stepped in. He smirked and rolled his eyes.
"You wouldn't do that. It's kind of hard to kiss like that from behind bars." He winked and I burst out laughing.
"Don't flatter yourself, what if I thought it was lame?" I crossed my arms and smirked.
"Oh please. You couldn't even breathe."
"Whatever, I--" He cut me off by kissing me again, and I hated to admit it but his was right. I was totally breathless.
"Now, I can leave." He smirked and I smacked his arm gently, stepping back so he could back out. "I'll be back." He said, winking again.
And I couldn't wait.
He had called, texted, and visited me just about every waking moment since then, and it had been two weeks since the party where we met. Just thinking about him made me happy.
I bit my lip, trying to keep the smile off of my face as I hopped down the stairs, two at a time. As I walked into the kitchen I threw my hair up into a messy ponytail, it bouncing with every step. I raided the cabinets for something, anything, I could eat that required little work. Lucky Charms? Nah. Oatmeal? Definitely not. Chewing on my thumb nail, I opened the last cabinet to find instant waffle mix.
"This'll do." I said, grabbing the box and the ingredients. Since my parents were still on their business trip, I turned on my favorite radio station and sang along to "Stereo Hearts". Pouring the batter into the waffle maker, I heard the doorbell ring. I dropped the bowl of batter quickly and rushed to the door, yanking it open only to see my neighbor and best guy friend Austin.
"Oh, it's you." I said in a flat voice.
"Wow, someone's rude this morning." He said, pouting.
"Er...I meant..." I put a look of mock excitement on my face this time "Oh! It's you!" Pulling him into a hug, I could hear the low rumble of laughter in his chest. He stopped quickly and shoved me off.
"Are you making waffles?!" He said, pushing me to the side and hurrying to the kitchen.
"What's it with you & food?" I said, crossing my arms and shuffling into the kitchen, my slippers gliding across the wood floor.
