Draco sat by the fireplace with his father. He had been so clos to being caught with Luna and number of times over the past month. He couldn't help but wonder what her fate would be if Lucius were to find out of their secret meetings.
Draco was starting to drift off, when there was a sudden commotion in the room. At least a dozen people now filled the large sitting room in his house. He swept the crowd with his eyes, seeing who was there. His gaze froze on a familiar pair of brown eyes staring back into his grey ones. Draco's bones ached when he saw the fear behind them. Oh my God.
What was she doing here? Draco's chest twisted when he saw the way that her hands were bound behind her back. He could see the fear etched in her features. he gulped.
"They say they've got Potter." His mother said to him. "Draco, come here."
He rose from his armchair and slowly walked over to where Harry stood.
"Well boy." rasped Fenrir. Harry's face was a huge, lumpy, mess. Draco knew that it was him, those eyes were unmistakable. Harry refused to look at Draco, unlike Hermione who refused to take her pleading eyes off of him. He would recognize the three anywhere, but they didn't look like themselves. They looked wild, and underfed. Draco's heart squeezed when he noticed how much weight Hermione had lost.
"Well Draco?" said Lucius. Draco's eyes flicked to Hermione, then back to Harry.
"I can't- I can't be certain." He said, trying to sound convincing.
"But look at him closely, look, come closer." Encouraged Lucius. "Draco, if we are the one's who actually hand him over to the dark lord, everything will be forgiven."
Draco said nothing in reply. instead he turned to Fenrir. "What did you do to him?"
"That wasn't us?"
"Looks like a stinging jinx." Said Lucius. "There's something there, could be the scar. Draco come here, look properly.
Draco had no idea what to do. If he revealed Potter, Hermione would die; But if he didn't, the dark lord would most likely kill him and his family before the war is over. His mind was made up quickly.
"I don't know." He said, and walked over to where his mother stood.
"What about the mudblood then?" Said Fenrir.
Draco's blood ran cold as Hermione was roughly pushed to the front of the prisoners.
"Wait." Said Narcissa. "Yes-yes, She was in Madame Malkins with Potter! I saw her picture in the prophet! Look Draco, isn't it the Granger girl?"
"No," he said sharply.
"Yes it is," said a snatcher. He pulled a prophet from his bag and showed everyone the picture. Draco went absolutely white. Hermione looked like she could have thrown up. She was shaking, hard. Draco wished that he could hold her.
"Then that's the Weasley boy."
"I don't know." said Draco again. Everyone looked as the sitting room door opened.
"What is this Cissy?" Bellatrix's eyeys fell onto Hermione, who was still at the front of the prisoners. She began to writhe beneath her binds.
"But surely..." Bellatrix said, pressing a hand to Hermione's cheek, causing her to squirm again. Draco wished that he could do something. "This is the mudblood girl? This is Granger?
"Yes, yes its Granger, and beside her we think is Potter!"
Bellatrix turned to Harry, forgetting about Hermione. She moved smoothly towards him, but stopped when her eye caught a glimpse of gold.
