"What happened to you?" Mia cried out, making most of the school that was walking up to the building turn curiously towards him as she approached him in a hurry after spotting him at the gate. He cursed her, clenching his jaw and wincing as soon as he did.

"It's nothing," he shrugged her off as she fawned over him hands hovering here and there were bruises were and bandages stuck to his skin. "I just fell off my board and fell down a hill and hit a pole at the bottom, no biggie." Although his board had snapped in two from the momentum of the hill. He was in mourning.

Also he was not going to admit that it wouldn't of happened if he hadn't been so distracted in his own thoughts, cursing his love life – or lack thereof.

"Shit, mate," Jake's voice came up from behind him. "What happened?"

Sam sighed, knowing this was all he was going to get all day. "I fell off my board."

Jake promptly laughed in his face before Mia elbowed him.

Sam rolled his eyes at his friend and swung his arm around his neck, pulling him down to his height, "you wouldn't be laughing if your face looked like this."

Jake chuckled, taking Sam's pull in stride. "Mate, if anything it's an improvement from what you usually look like."

"Dick," Sam huffed with amusement, pulling him in tighter and messing with his hair, yanking him across the school grounds, both of them in hysterics with Mia smiling fondly behind them.

"Maybe it'll leave a scar," Ellen sighed dreamily, staring at Sam's cheek. "I know someone that is a little too fascinated by the disfigurations of the skin."

Sam leaned closer, giving Ellen his best smile despite it hurting a little. "Really?"

"Mmm," she hummed brightly. "Absolutely riveted. He doesn't realise it though. He likes looking danger in the eye."

Sam smiled happily into his milkshake his mum had handed him that morning, her own recipe and put into a reusable cup, not letting on to Ellen that he may have already acquired a few old scars over the years due to bike accidents.

Mind completely in the gutter.

A cold hand came to his cheek, he jumped, not because of the pain that prickled up when the hand brushed against his wound but in surprise, ripping him from his thoughts. He looked up, blinking to find Felix leaning over the table, eyes clear as day staring down at him, brows creased in concern. He hissed, jerking his hand away, "sorry, did that hurt?"

Sam shook his head, meeping a little and completely ignoring Ellen from over Felix's shoulder, baring her teeth like a shark.

"Ellie told me what happened while you were away in another one of your day dream," Felix took a seat next to him, making Sam have to budge up a tad but not enough, making Felix's thigh rest completely against him. Not taking his eyes off him, Felix raked his face, finding every cut and bruise and bandage. "Looks sore."

Sam motioned his head and shoulders in an uncaring attitude, regretting it as soon as pain blossomed on his shoulder. "I've had worse," he said meekly.

Felix nodded in understanding, "I've seen the videos."

Sam lit up, not noticing Ellen shaking her head and leaving the table away from the idiots she called friends. "Really? What'dya think of them? Awesome right? Did you see the one where a flipped off the creek? So cool right? My mum grounded me for a like a month, but it was totally worth it."
