Day Thirty

Max's POV - Two days later.

"Adam?"

He sits there staring at Chilled's body. Not making any movement at all.

"Adam, Chilled's dad wants to say goodbye. I think you should let him have privacy for this..."

He doesn't take his eyes off Chilled.

"How am I suppose to continue on without him Max?" He starts to sniffle.

This is going to be hard... What am I suppose to say or do that will make this better?

"I don't know. Come with me."

I take Adams hand and move them away from Chilled's own hand but he pulls back and grabs ahold of his hands again. I feel so sorry for him.

"NO. CHILLED. COME ON. WAKE UP. PLEASE! I NEED YOU! DON'T YOU DARE CHECK OUT AND LEAVE!"

He starts to bang his fists on Chilled's chest. He might do something to him if I don't stop him. His eyes begin filling up with tears. I quickly tackle his arms behind his back and drag him out of the room. I take him out the door and down the hallway. Ze and Chilled's dad standing in shock over how Adam is reacting.

"MAX, LET ME GO! I CAN'T DO THIS ANY MORE. HE'S GONE. HE'S FUCKING GONE."

"Adam, stop. There's nothing we can do but he can still try. He's still got two hours! Miracles happen all the time." I throw myself at him and squeeze him so he can let himself go in my arms. He needs some sort of comfort.

"This isn't some miracle story Max! It's real life. Miracles don't mean shit!" He pushes me off him and it sends me flying back.

"YOU DON'T KNOW THAT! HE CAN STILL MAKE IT. YOU GOTTA BELIEVE!" I raise my voice at him.

He starts to shake his head, disagreeing with my comment. He paces back and forth in front of me. He's really struggling right now, I have never seen him so upset before.

"No, no. I'm done believing... I need to go."

He makes a bolt for it and runs around the corner. "ADAM! Where are you going?!" I run after him hoping he doesn't do anything stupid. I stop when I get to the nurses station. There's about five different ways he could of gone. How am I going to find him?!

It had been almost an hour with no sign of Adam anywhere. I got Ze and Chilled's dad looking around the hospital for him but so far we haven't found him. I end up back outside Chilled's room just in case Adam slipped back in without telling anyone. I go to turn the door handle but my phone vibrates. I see Ze's name so I pick it up automatically.

"I haven't found him yet Ze. I don't know where else to look. I'm going to check back in Chilled's..."

"I found him! He's just sitting outside on a bench. I'll talk to him and bring him in when he's ready." Ze interrupts me.

"Stay with him Ze, don't let him out of your sight. I'm heading into Chilled's room now to have a little chat. Talk soon." I hang up my phone at look at the clock.

4.03pm. Fifty seven minutes left... I open the door and walk in. All I could hear was his machines beeping slowly. I stand at the end of his bed and look down at him.

"I can't believe this is actually happening."

I walk around to the side of his bed and place my hand on his. It looks like he's just sleeping.

"Thirty days ago the doctors thought you wouldn't last the night but you held on. All you gotta do is wake up. One more step. You can't leave everyone like this. Especially Adam. He won't survive this. He needs you. Can you stop being stubborn and wake up already..." I sit myself down on the seat next to him.
