Mason's POV
Being eight doesn't help anything. I'm the youngest one here. I knew I shouldn't have come. But my cousin had insisted that I come. She even dragged me to the base of the mountain.
"Mason, can you please let go of my arm," asked Malaya from behind me.
"Sorry." I let go. "Did I hurt you, Malaya?"
"No," she replied a smile lighting up on her face, "I can just walk on my own, you know?"
"Yeah." I smiled back as big as I could.
We walk further into the cave to catch up with the others. We we're silent the entire way.
We find them standing in a gigantic cavern. There were 8 caves, not including the one we just walked through, branching off from the cavern.
"Wow," was all I could say.
"Hey, look," said Josh. He was pointing to above the caves. "There's symbols above each one. But what do these symbols mean?"
Looked up at the symbol, and before I could think, I said, "That symbol means Fire."
Everyone turned to me.
"How can you read that," asked Kayla.
I shrugged in answer. I had no clue. At all. It just seemed like something I did.
"Freak," I heard under Kale's breath, though I pretend not to hear.
"So which one is ice," asked Malaya.
I look at the symbols again. "Third tunnel from the right."
"Thanks," she said and walked to the cave I indicated. She walks away down the cave not turning back.
I'm sorry, Malaya. I just don't know my own strengths yet.
