(Female P.O.V)

They say that sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me.

I find this to be both true and false.

Hi there, I'm (female name), I'm 18 years old and live a normal life, well as normal as can be considering I'm anything but normal in this forsaken modern world, I'm a shapeshifter and can shift into pretty much anything, from a physical object to a living being. I'm not sure how or why exactly I have this power, but it's certainly helped in tough situations.

Like blending with the scenery when people are running towards you with pitchforks and torches, screaming at you to 'get your freakiness out of our town you monster'.

That aside though, there were some other abilities I had. Like having powers over Earth and Water. I sound like some Mary Sue character don't I? Hehe.

But like my shifting abilities, I don't know why I have these abilities, and after many years of wandering and trying to find answers. I left it be and just embraced them as a part of me, rather than some unknown entity. And let me tell you, they are really good when I need them most.

But I make an effort not to use them too much, I didn't want to be found out and used as some lab rat for their 'pure intentions of understanding'. Bull shark.

As far as everyone is concerned I'm a freak and a danger magnet. Not sure why but creeps always seemed to come up to me and try something. They end up leaving when I do something that really freaks them out. Along with a black eye. And a nose bleed.

Hmm, I'm sure I'm forgetting something, oh yes, (Male name) is my best friend, practically my brother, we're close and do stuff together all the time, mainly emotional support, we got along so well that we fell into the sibling mode without even realising it.

He may not be a shapeshifter like me, but he does have powers over Fire and Air, you'd think with us being each other's elemental weakness, that we would not want to be near each other, let alone be able to stand each other. But we made it work, and our bond had been growing stronger ever since.

While we may not have the same habits or tastes, there was, however, one thing we both enjoyed watching, 'How to train your dragon' (as well as the Series) as well as playing 'School of dragons', we loved them because it was like a chance to escape the real world, to pretend that he was the dragon rider, and I was the dragon.

We did that a lot when we had the chance, in our back garden, he would jump onto my back and act like a dragon rider, and I, of course, being the dragon. Yeah, we looked silly, but it was fun, and it was the next best thing since we were too busy trying to save up money to get out of this place.

A place where we could really be ourselves.

One day though, we were both mentally drained and the negativity had finally taken its toll on us. My brother was looking things up on the internet when he came across something interesting.

There were some woods that was half an hour away by transport. Nobody went in there because they believed they were dangerous or haunted. We both decided to go camping there so that I could test my dragon shifting abilities.

What we didn't know was that tomorrow would change our lives forever.
