deep breaths.

i stumbled along the corridor, holding on to the wall for support. my mind was crystal clear and i was well-aware of the incoming danger, but my limbs felt sluggish. i could feel the presence behind me getting closer but my feet felt like they were in quicksand.

before i knew it, i was engulfed by darkness. the only source of light came from the corner of the spacious room. i edged closer and realised there was a chair with a dark figure on it, his back facing me.

"h-hello?" my voice came out as raspy and barely audible.

the figure tensed and turned slightly so that i caught a glimpse of the figure's face. a guy with handsome features and a sharp jawline.

his bloodshot eyes were staring deep into my brown orbs. i couldn't decipher what message he was trying to send - it seemed like a mixture of irritation and curiosity.

and that was when i realised he was holding a limp girl in his arms.

blood oozed out from a wound on her neck and dripped to the ground in a steady stream. i shifted my gaze upwards and noticed with a jolt that the guy's lips and chin were smeared with crimson red blood.

LEE SUNMI

my eyes flew open. my heart thumped wildly and i placed a hand over my chest while taking slow deep breaths. i stared at my the ceiling, the familiar setting of my room calming me down. what the hell was that?

the number of horror movies that i've watched must have been taking a toll on me. i chuckled slightly, and silently chided myself for fearing something that wasn't even real.

just a freaking dream, lee sunmi.

i woke up feeling like a zombie. "ugh stupid dream." i muttered to myself while preparing breakfast. after having my cereal, i washed up and changed into a simple white tee, paired with faded denim ripped jeans. since i was already running late, i didn't bother to blow dry my hair and just let it hang loosely over my shoulders.

putting aside the dream, i was extremely excited for tonight's outing - a trip to the newly opened amusement park. what excited me the most was the haunted house. ever since young, i've always been captivated by horror stories and movies. i absolutely loved haunted houses and i've been to countless number of haunted houses.

mainly because i didn't believe in the supernatural.

i met up with my best friend, pamela, and we went shopping for the entire afternoon before visiting the amusement park at night. it was 9pm and surprisingly there was a full moon. weird, the news said it would only be out in a few weeks' time.

"y-yah. are you sure you want to go into the haunted house?" pamela prodded my arm. i followed her gaze and discovered a huge box-like structure at the very corner of the park. a feeling of excitement bubbled inside me.

"of course!" i dragged a hesitant pamela behind me and made a beeline for the haunted house. getting closer, i realised that the box-like structure was decorated with lots of Halloween props. we got into queue and i could hear the people in front of us buzzing with excitement as well. some, like pamela, were glancing around furtively as if a ghost were about to pounce on them any moment.

it took only 5 minutes for us to reach the entrance. just as we were about to enter, the security guy held out a hand to stop the people behind us from entering.

"we are very sorry but the haunted house is closed for today." i overheard him saying.

groans and sighs of relief chorused behind us. pamela gripped my hand tighter as we stepped into the threshold. "don't worry i'm here." i whispered.

a freezing gust of air blew into our faces as we entered the darkness. a musty scent hung in the air, like no one visited here for a very long time. it was pitch black, save for the 'exit' signs. as expected, a skeleton pounced at us the moment we turned the corner. pamela screamed and flailed her arms, smacking the skeleton in the process.

i could only laugh at her actions and i felt a glare from her. "sorry." i said sheepishly.

we ventured deeper into the darkness and by this time, my eyes had already adjusted to the dark. for some reason, i felt someone staring into my back. but each time i whipped around, all i could see was an empty corridor.

pamela kept giving me irritated noises for every time i turned, she thought there was something behind her and spun around as well.

we rounded yet another corner and that was when a strong sense of deja vu washed over me.

it's the corridor in my dream.

i tried not to spook myself any further and clenched my teeth, determined to find the exit. "pamela, do you remember if we came here before?" i wondered aloud. this place was a freaking maze.

i was greeted with silence.

"pam?" i frowned and tightened my grip on her hand. since when did pamela's hand become so cold? i glanced down and saw that it was a mannequin's hand that i'm holding.

i stifled a scream and immediately let go, cradling my hand close to my chest.

where the hell was pamela?

deciding that staying in the same place wasn't an option, i went on to search corridors after corridors for pamela. the thought of her exiting the haunted house already did cross my mind, but if she was still inside here somehere, i knew i wouldn't forgive myself for leaving her behind.

shit, not this again, i thought as i reached yet another corridor that looked exactly like the one that i came across a few seconds ago. i took a few steps backwards and turned around-

-to come face to face with the guy in my dream last night.

run! my mind screamed. but my feet remain rooted to the ground.

to say that he was handsome was an understatement. his sharp features stood out even in the darkness, and his hair was tousled slightly. in contrast to last night's bloodshot eyes, he now had hazelnut brown eyes that looked slightly watery. everything on him screamed black - black collared button down shirt, black skinny jeans, black sneakers. he seemed even more good-looking in reality.

but there was no way i could forget the image of him feeding on the girl's blood.

i blinked rapidly, hoping that it was just a hallucination. but the smell of his cologne wafted over to me and it was too real to be my hallucination. to add on, it was my first time smelling it.

"are you lost, princess?" he spoke with his hands deep in his pockets. i didn't know why, but his voice was deep and velvety and i wanted to submerge myself in it.

i clenched my hands. "you're not real."

"and how did you come to that conclusion?" he had an amused glint in his eyes. i held my head up high. "i've read enough books to-"

i was cut off when the guy disappeared and reappeared in front of me in just a split second. our faces were mere inches apart. i gulped and adverted my gaze. this can't be real this can't be-

"horror books? are you basing my existence on your bedtime stories?" the guy scoffed. before i could reply, the guy continued. "looking for that red-haired friend of yours, aren't you?"

i breathed a sigh of relief. "you saw her? where is she?" i asked frantically.

"mmhmm. she tasted delicious."

"w-what?" i was panic-stricken, my mind replaying the scene of him and the girl last night. anger flared in me as i thought of pamela being hurt by him. i grabbed his collar. "you filthy piece of crap!"

instead of pushing me away, his strong arms grabbed me and pulled me in close. i stumbled and managed to pull myself back at the last moment so that i wouldn't faceplant into his chest.

even if it looked tempting.

"it's baekhyun. byun baekhyun. and be careful, princess. one wrong step," he whispered before leaning in. "and you're mine."
