LEE SUNMI

my body jerked as my eyes flew open. for a moment it felt like my heart had stopped pumping.

breathe, sunmi, breathe.

i focused on inhaling and exhaling while my mind reeled to find an explanation for what had just happened. the last words that i heard were "one wrong step and you'll be mine." the next thing i knew, i had woken up in my own room.

another dream? but the guy who called himself baekhyun seemed so real. i could still feel his touch on my arm.

in contrast to a few seconds ago, my heart was now beating furiously as i recalled what baekhyun had said about pamela.

pamela.

i scrambled out of my bed and rushed to the desk, mindlessly groping for my phone in the darkness. once i found it, i dialed Pamela's number immediately.

it went to voicemail.

"shit shit shit." i cursed as i paced around my room. checking the time, i realised it was already time to head to school. maybe pam's battery ran out or something, i tried to reassure myself.

i had a quick bath then threw on a simple outfit before leaving a quick note for my parents. grabbing my bag, i decided to run to school instead of waiting for the bus which only comes in half an hour's time.

ain't nobody got time when your best friend has been kidnapped by a demon.

i wasn't sure where i got the notion that baekhyun's a demon from. but from the way he could teleport, and the sight of him feeding on the girl... that's enough to prove that he's not human.

it was a good thing that i lived near to the school and i arrived in no time. panting, i went straight to my first class, with high hopes that pamela would be sitting there waiting for me. probably joking about how silly i was last night.

yep i hoped i fainted in the haunted house last night and pamela brought me home and whatever happened with baekhyun was a dream.

i wished.

stepping into the classroom, my gaze swept across the room in search for the girl with waist-length scarlet red hair. to my dismay, i spotted no redheads. pamela had never missed a day of school before.

i took my seat next to jungkook who noticed my tense stance immediately. other than pamela, he was the only person who understood my mood just by looking at me. "what's wrong?" he asked.

i hesitated. if i told him, he'd probably think that i was going nuts or something. being someone who didn't believe in supernatural for 19 years of my life, i found it hard to believe what happened either. however, i felt the need to confide in someone. moreover, jungkook would see through my lie straightaway.

"i'll tell you when i figure this out. life's a mess now and i just need some time on my own, okay?" i said and plastered a smile on my face, hoping it looked convincing.

thankfully jungkook believed me and gave me a grin in return, showing his bunny teeth. "sure. just call me when you need me okay? where's pam by the way?"

i froze. "uhh... overslept?"

jungkook frowned slightly but didn't probe further. my shoulders felt heavy knowing that i somewhat lied to one of my best friends. but then again, i had a weird feeling that if i blurt anything out, baekhyun might harm pamela.

if she's still alive.

i shook my head, trying to get rid of the negative thoughts that threatened to overwhelm me. instead, i focused on the lesson and surprisingly managed to get through school for the day. all the while i tried to contact pamela but there was still no answer. she wasn't close to her family so i didn't have their contact either.
