I became friends with that boy. His name is Jack. We've been close friends since 4th grade. He's the only person in the world who knows about my secret. It took me 4 years before I finally told him while hanging out at his house over the spring break of 8th grade.
We were playing video games and talking about just about anything when I blurted out that I liked him. The words had slipped out before I realized what I had said. He paused the game and looked at me for a second, just looking at me. As if he didn't recognize the person in front of him. I got scared that he would leave me or beat me up. He is a lot stronger than me after all. Always has been. He isn't muscular at a glance but on hot days or when we're at the pool and his shirt is off, you can see that he is very toned. He's also taller than me. Not by too much, but enough to tease me and call me names like "mouse" or "dwarf". The nicknames make me sound a lot shorter though but he's only a couple inches taller so it makes no sense to me. I'm starting to get off track.
So I thought he was going to do something terrible. I was about to cry while also preparing myself to be able to defend against a possible beat down. But he just looked at me. After a few seconds, although it felt like hours, he just smiled at me and laughed. I was so shocked I just about jumped to my feet when he tackled me with a hug.
Since then, we've gotten closer. Every so often he would see me looking at a guy in the hallways and nudge me and then to embarrass me he would go up to them and start talking to them about me. I would feel my face turn red and quickly grab his arm and walk away with him. Sometimes it makes me regret ever telling him. But then he does things that makes me quickly forget that thought.
