We were both just about to start 10th grade. It had been a little less than a year since I accidentally blurted out that I liked him. After that day I never thought anything really big could ever happen to me again. But I never knew that a new family member would end up completely changing my life.
Usually a new family member would mean a baby brother or sister. Or even a pet of some sort. But my parents hated the whole baby and toddler phase. And instead of a baby they decided to adopt a child my age. And of course to make matters worse it had to be a boy.
So my mom and dad work a lot because they're both very skilled doctors. My mom is a pediatrician and my dad is a surgeon. My mom spends so much time around kids you would think that she would be fine with only one child right? And it's true. She was. It was my dad who wanted another child. "Another person to join in on family games and keep Chad company" he would always say to my mom. Now I know what you're thinking, and yes, my name is Chad. I always have mixed feelings about the name but I always think "it could be worse".
My dad had been begging my mom for almost a year to get another child. Then she finally gave in. So as an early birthday present to him, my mom and dad took a day off work, while I was at school, and went to the orphanage in our town. I didn't know any of this at the time and was shocked to come home and find an attractive guy the same age as me in my room. My parents both got paged to work even though it was their day off so they couldn't even tell me any of this. I was completely caught of guard.
