Is He On Drugs?

The next morning, I woke up curled into a ball with my head still trapped against his chest. Luckily, he just started to wake up so his grip had become more of a hug of some sort and I was able to break free. I gasped, relieved to finally have fresh air and grateful that I was somehow still alive. I felt the bed shift and turned to look at him. He groggily sat up, rubbing his eyes.

"Whatime'sit?" He mumbled some sort of jibberish. Maybe elvish?

"What?"

He yawned loudly. "Whaaa time is it?" His speech was still sluggish but I understood him that time.

"I dunno...." I looked at the alarm clock. "We still have time. It's 6:30."

He stared tiredly at me, "okay."

"Oh did you know that you almost cuddled me to death last night?"

"What?" He laughed at me. "What do you mean I 'cuddled you to death'?"

"You went to sleep with your arms wrapped around me and wouldn't let go. I tried to get away and almost got suffocated!" My arms were flailing around in the air violently to show the seriousness of the situation.

Suddenly, Brendan cackled. Pretty sure that's the correct term for the noise he made. It definitely wasn't a laugh that's for sure. I nearly jumped from the disturbing noise that expelled from his mouth, if you heard it you would too. His cackle continued as I tried to back away slowly. After a few seconds he calmed down and gave a sigh, "you're cute... Haha..."

I froze for a second and stared at him.

The face I made must've been weird because he cracked up again. Seriously was he on crack? He just laughed so much!

After about a minute he was still laughing, I was really starting to get creeped out. I slowly backed away more and more until two wooden pencils caught my eye. I grabbed them off my floor and held them together in the shape of a cross.

"Begone demon!!! Stop possessing Brendan!!" I got closer to him while also holding out the "cross" in front of myself.

I guess we were both being way too loud because my dad came barging through the door. We both went silent but Brendan had laughed so hard he was crying and I still had the pencils in front of me.

"What are you two doing? It's not even 7am yet! Either go back to sleep or shut up!" He glared at both of us.

I stared at the pencils in my hands and quickly put my arms down. I grinned at him a teethy grin to show everything was going fine and went to the door.

"I'm so sorry we will be quiet now go back to bed." I reassured him quickly while also pushing him out of my room. "Don't wake mom," I said quickly before shutting the door. I leaned my back against the door and gave a breath of relief. "Luckily it was only dad. If we had woken up mom she would have had a knife to our necks for waking her."

"Wh-what do you mean 'a knife to our necks'?" Brendan had finally completely calmed down and was as calm and collected as I remembered him, although his face was abnormally red.

"I'm obviously talking figuratively. But when someone wakes her from her sleep, she gets scary. Really scary." I tried to make the most serious face I could to show him the importance of forever remembering that statement.

He stared at me and smiled, "are you trying to look threatening or something? That face is honestly adorable." He laughed at my apparently adorable facial expression.

I glared at him. "Oh shut up! Let's just get ready for school! The bus will be here in half an hour."

We both got ready for school. I guess my parents had already registered him yesterday but I didn't know that the school could put him in so quick. Honestly, that sounds more annoying than anything and I think it should be illegal. If I were him I would never want to go to school let alone right after I get put in a new house. He had his own toothbrush from the orphanage so that wasn't a problem. I'm glad I didn't have to share a toothbrush, just imagine all the gunk on our teeth and then putting someone else's teeth gunk on your teeth. Gross.

Ok. I will try my best to stop getting off track. No promises.
