Regret

It was the night before Elliot was due to arrive home the next day, and Olivia found herself in bed not getting any sleep. She tried acting as though her excitement of her husbands return was the reason behind her restless night, but her self conscious mind wouldn't allow for her to do so. Olivia knew the exact reason why..

That night with David Haden had her fighting with herself on what to do. For the past few days she had been asking herself why did she do it?  What was it that drove her to risk throwing away an entire marriage to sleep with a man she had literally just met? The only thing that had formed between them was attraction, lust, and hunger.

I had no reason at all

She finally concluded. She had been trying to
find her reasoning behind all of this, but there simply was none. None great enough at least..

Olivia had busied herself all morning with cleaning around the house, the only thing that seemed to calm her nerves about Elliot coming home. She decided that it was best to try and move on from that night, from that mistake. For the sake of not only her marriage, but for David's life as well. She knew that if Elliot ever found out, he'd lose all control and set out for David's blood.

This plan to hide her infidelity felt insane, and completely against everything they had promised each other at the alter almost 3 years ago. She knew that if Elliot were to ever cheat on her, to sleep with another woman while he was on a business trip, she would want the truth, at least she thought she would..

Just as she had finished organizing the shelves in the living room, she heard the lock to the front door beginning to turn. She glanced over at the large clock that hung on the wall, it was just after 12, three hours earlier than when Elliot was supposed to arrive home.

Shit

"Liv?" His voice echoed off the walls. She jumped, already a nervous wreck. Olivia was most afraid of Elliot being able to read her, seeing that something was off, that something had happened.

She cautiously walked into the foyer, and stood at the archway that led into the hallway. Elliot stood there, dressed in only a pair of grey sweats and a hoodie, his normal travel wear. His eyes sparkled at just the sight of her. Even after all the years that he's had to leave on business, every time he left he missed her like crazy.

Slowly he walked across to her, and gently tugged on her arm to pull her close. Olivia fell into his embrace, wrapping her arms around his lower back. His scent, the way her body conformed to his, all reminded her of the many reasons she loved this man. The reason that they were together, and not with any one else. He was her rock, her everything, and didn't deserve to be a victim of her infidelity.

He lifted her chin up, and brought her lips to his, kissing her gently. He traced his tongue over her bottom lip, before deepening the kiss. It was languid, yet still remained passionate and fiery.

She missed him too

She thought to herself as he pulled back and cupped the sides of her face. No one else looked at her the way that he did, or made her feel so loved with the simple action of just kissing her.

"Baby what's wrong?" She had gotten so caught up in her thoughts, that she didn't even notice the tears that had begun to fall.

"I'm fine, I just.." she found herself pondering on the decision to just lay it all out on the table, to tell him the truth. "Things were a little crazy at work this week, and I guess I just really missed you," she opted for lying instead, a crappy one at that. He smiled softly and used the pads of his thumbs to wipe her tears away.

"How about I take you upstairs to relieve some of that stress," his hands traveled down to her lower back and pulled her close to him. This was good. She needed for everything to return back to normal as soon as possible, so that the remorse would stop eating at her.

"I think that's exactly what I needed this week,"  she played along the best that she could, and followed him upstairs as he led her to their sanctuary. The place were they knew how to love each other best...

***********
Olivia had been dreading the following Monday, remembering that she had a meeting with Haden in the morning, along with other members of the squad working the case. She wanted to call in, take the day off, but she knew that their victim needed them to be on their best for this case. So she did what she does best and handled it the Benson way. Which wasn't really handling it at all, just pushing her problems aside to help assist others.

She had managed to get there right on time, but was confused when she entered Haden's office and he was the only one there.

"Where is everyone?" He looked up from his computer, and smiled when he noticed it was Olivia standing in his office.

"They should be here soon. I kind of told you to come a little earlier. We really need to talk," she felt her stomach drop at the word talk. This is what she was hoping to avoid, and thought that maybe they both had a understanding to act like that night never happened. Apparently she had got it all wrong.

"Oh god David, I told you to let that night go. It meant nothing to me!" For the first time in the past few days she was actually telling the truth.

"Okay, now that's gotta be a lie!" He stood and came around his desk, sitting on the edge. "There's no way that could've meant nothing at all to you! Not with the way you came all over my-"

"David just stop!" She was yelling at this point and quickly went to shut his office door.  "What part about I'm married and it was a mistake, that you don't get?"

Before he could answer there came a knock on the door. "Come in," it was Cragen. He stood for a moment, aware that he must have been intruding on something.

"Everything okay?" Olivia walked over to the window, running a hand through her hair.

"We were just...talking," David finally spoke up. "Come on in Captain."

"Fin and Amanda are on their way," he took a seat at the large meeting table, hoping to avoid the tension he had felt in the room.

If this were any indication of how it would from now on working with David, she would be dealing with trying to hide their night of lust a lot longer than she had anticipated.

There's more to come and sooner this time. Chapter fillers are a bitch, but it'll be worth the wait ;)
