Caribbean Blue

Chapter 3

  I woke up early with the sun. I got up and looked out the windows. Some people were already out surfing. I then got dressed for my first day. I put on a green and white dress that has leaves on it. I also wore a brown belt with it. I put my hair up in a side braid, i put on light pink lipstick and flip flops.  I decided I should make a good first impression.  I grabbed my bag and books and I headed downstairs. My brother was already downstairs, dressed in a t-shirt, shorts and a beanie. I sat down to join him. “Dad is out on set right now so he said Jefferson will take us to school” Junior explained. “Okay sounds good”. Jefferson then came into the kitchen. “Good morning Ms. Blue and Mr. Blue” he said.  Junior and I looked at each other laughing telepathically.  “Were fine with just Carrie and Junior thanks” Junior said. “As you wish” Jefferson said. “I’ve got the car waiting outside for you once you’re ready”. Junior and I got out bags and walked to the car. It was a limo! “Whoa!” we both exclaimed. Jefferson opened the door for us. We’re not use to this living style. I could get used to it I thought. “Thank you” we both said. Junior and I exchanged glances in amazement.

   We arrived at Sunrise Academy early before school started. Jefferson opened the door for us and we walked onto campus and thanked him. Jefferson drove off. We stood standing there for a couple of minutes, still shocked how nice the school looked. We turned around to see two boys in a car blasting music thinking they are so cool. They were dressed in baggy clothes. They looked at Junior and I and gave us both glares. “Come on let’s go inside” I said, taking hold of Junior’s hand. We turned around and walked into the school. The boys in the car pulled into the school’s driveway.  We entered the school having no clue where to go. We finally found the office and the lady showed us where our classrooms are. It was already a week into school so we were obviously the new kids. We walked to Junior’s class first. The two boys from the car were in it. Junior looked a bit nervous. “Don’t worry, you’ll be fine” I tried to calm him down. He nodded, took a deep breath and walked in. The teacher stopped to introduce him and she instructed him to sit In front of the two boys. Junior looked at me and I mouthed “Good Luck”. He nodded. Mrs. James then showed me my 1stperiod class. I thanked her and I was then left alone standing at the doorway. I knocked. The teacher saw me and motioned me to come in. I felt a million eyes all at once turn to look at me. “Everyone please welcome our new student Caribbean Blue” Mrs. Wheeler introduced. Everyone said Hi politely. “Call me Carrie” I corrected. “Why don’t you take a seat near Mr. Bloomwood”, she pointed to a guy who raised his hand. “Oh no, it can’t be oh please no, don’t remember me” I thought in my mind. I said thank you and sat down next to him. “Clumsy surf board girl?” he said. “Oh great he remembers” I said in my mind. “Yup that’s me” I said quietly in embarrassment. “I didn’t know you went to Sunrise Academy” he said. “Me neither well until my mother told me I was moving to Sunrise Beach”. “Well I’m glad you did, I don’t believe we properly met, my name is Ryder” he introduced himself. He stuck his hand out, I shook it and smiled. “Everyone turn to page 120 of your text book. Let’s help Carrie catch up” Mrs. Wheeler instructed. I opened my textbook as did everyone else.

  At lunch I went to meet Junior at his locker to see how his classed went. In the process, I ran into the girl who was bitten by the shark. She had a bandage on the bite. “Hi you don’t know me but I saw what happened. My name is Caribbean but call me Carrie” I said walking up to her. She was by herself.  “I’m May” she said silently. “Are you okay?” I wondered. She looks at her bite. “Yeah I’m fine it just stings sometimes” she explained. “How did it happen if you don’t mind me asking?” “No, no I don’t mind. Well I sort of have this case for sleep swimming and I guess I didn’t realize I was swimming until the shark came. I screamed in terror and my father and brother were already on the boat and rescued me” she said. But this didn’t happen until early in the morning, I guess I was in the ocean all night” May said. “Wow I’m glad you’re alright” I said. “Me too”, she said as well. “We it was very nice to meet you but I have to go meet my brother”. I said. 

“Nice to meet you too”, May waved bye as I started walking away. I waved too and started to walk to Junior’s locker. “Hey Carrie” Junior said, noticing me walking towards him. “Hey bro how’s your classes?”  I asked. “Okay, I guess” he responded. “How about yours?” he asked quickly, changing the subject. I got this feeling that something went wrong but I wasn’t sure what the wrong part was.  I shook the odd feeling off and said “Good I think I’ll be able to manage”. Junior then shut the door of his locker and we walked outside to eat. As we walked outside we realized there’s no place for us to sit. I examined the area and realized everybody was put into cliques like in the movies. Theirs the: Jocks, cheerleading squad, the inbetweeners, the music group and the social outcasts of Sunrise Academy. I then saw Ryder coming up to me. “Hey Carrie want to come sit over with me” ho motioned towards the “Popular” tables. I saw the girls in the cheerleading outfits glare at me. “No I’m okay; I’ll just eat with my brother today. Thanks anyways.” I declined. Ryder nodded and was dragged away by one of his buddies. I was still searching for a place to sit when one of the cheerleaders came up to me. She has dark brown hair tied up in a ponytail. “Do you know who you were just talking to?” “Yeah that was Ryder” I said. “He’s the most popular guy in the eleventh grade!” she cheered. “And..?” I asked wondering why she cares that I talked to him. She folds her arms up and says “Well people have to work so hard just to get his attention and for him to talk to you” she explained. “Oh people like you?” I tried to stay calm she was definitely getting on my on my case. “Uh excuse me? People like me are allowed to be seen with people like him”, she pointed to where Ryder was. She continued “And people like you shouldn’t even breathe the same air as him”. People can be so cruel I thought. “You aren’t eligible to tell me who I can or can’t talk to or who I’m supposed to be friends with. I think I can figure that out for myself now will you excuse me” I tried to walk pass her. Pony tail girl stormed off and went back to her squad. Junior followed me, “Whoa that was amazing!” he exclaimed. “Thanks” I laughed. I guess this girl saw and heard everything because in just a few seconds after, I heard her say “Hey! Wait up!” We stopped and she came up to me. “Do you know what you just did?” she asked. “Yeah I just told off that cheerleader” I said proudly. The girl looked at her and then looked back at me. “Not just any cheerleader the head cheerleader! Christina Sunrise, also known as the principle’s daughter and you- “Carrie” I said. – Just jeopardize your whole social status.” She said out of breath. “Does everybody around here care about what other people think?” I asked. She paused for a moment.  “Everyone” she replied.  She then started to walk with us. “I’m Free by the way” she introduced herself. “Free as in we are all free” I asked. “Yup, oh and hey Junior” she said looking at him. “You guys know each other?” I asked. “Yup we have AP English together” she replied. “Hey Free” Junior said shyly. “Can I join you?” she asked. “For sure” we both said. We didn’t see any open tables so we sat by a tree. It viewed the whole popular table. Christina Sunrise kept on giving me glares. “So you know Ryder Bloomwood?” Free wondered. “Yeah just barely though we only just met” I said. “Isn’t he gorgeous” she thought out loud. I didn’t say anything. I looked over at Ryder. He was pretty good looking. He caught me looking at him and smiled. I smiled back. He probably can see how red my face turned. “Oh my gosh! Did Ryder just smile at you?” Free, said excitedly.  “Yeahh” I laughed. “Want some tomatoes?” Junior asked. “Very funny” I said.

  After school Junior and I decided to go to the Aquarium. We entered the building and dropped off our bags at the door. Junior ran off to look at the sea creatures again. I gradually walked around, without watching where I was going and as clumsy as I am I bumped into Miles. “I oh uh I’m so sorry” I said embarrassed. He was trying to keep his balance and successfully did. “It’s okay” he laughed. “Are you with Mr. Blue this time as well?” he asked. “No I’m just here with my brother” I said pointing out where he was. There were a few other people visiting the Aquarium. Miles smiled. “Here come with me I have to show you something” he said and stuck his hand out for me to grab. I took it, “You like Dolphins?” he asked, but before I could answer he opened a pair of glass doors  that opened to an outdoor pool area. In the deep pool two dolphins were swimming around. I was in complete amazement. “Wow their beautiful!” I exclaimed. Miles said “They are the newest addition to Blue Aquarium they just came in a couple of days ago”. He saw how interested I was. “This one is Fray and this one is Crystal” he introduced them. “Hey guys!” I said, I kneeled down beside the pool and put my hand out. Crystal and Fray came to kiss it. “It seems that they like you” Miles said. We smiled at each other.
