My muscles fight me to stand up. Each muscle and bone creak, as I struggle to push myself up from the ground.
I was woken up by the sound of wolves howling, most likely the Mutts howling for their fallen Beta.
My ankle is fully healed, but my shoulder blade still hurts and the coldness over the night didn't help it.
I use one hand to grab a hold of tree root to help lift my body over the side of the ditch, before then using my right foot to push my body up of the ground and my left to push against the side as an extra boost to get over the side. Slowly I wriggle my body along the ground until I'm able to stand up, without falling down the ditch.
Using the trees around me, I lean on them to make my way back to the house. I have to cross two roads, but the sun has only just risen, and I doubt many cars will be out at this hour.
After reaching the end of the first woods, I meet the road I got hit at yesterday, and just as I suspected, there are no cars insight. I hobble across, my left foot still weak from the accident, and reach the other side.
I lean against the trees again, until I reach the next road. I watch as the odd car drives past every now and then. I don't want to go back. What will they think of me? Surely Derek told them. Maybe I'll just grab my things and go, but I need to kill Otis. I can't do that alone. I need their help. They'll probably shun me before I can ask for it though.
No one has ever had a Wolf for a mate before. No one has ever bothered to speak about it either. So what if they don't shun me? Will they still love me the same? Did they even love me in the first place?
I shake my head. Well it's time to face the music.
Checking for cars, I make my way across the road, and reach my forest. I draw closer and closer, my breathing getting harder and harder from fear. I'm about to turn back, but the house comes in to view, and home sickness hits me like a hurricane. I need to get back to my troops. I hobble quicker and I'm nearly there.
"You!" I stop immediately. Slowly, I turn around. A female Mutt begins to make a slow prowl towards me, followed by about 20 other Mutts in wolf form. "Me?" I question cockily, earning a glare from them all.
"You killed my mate, you bitch." She snarls, her fiery hazel eyes, burning holes in my forehead, she cant look me in my eyes as she doesn't have the same amount of power as me, her social level is too weak.
"Look darling I'm not the female dog here," I snap back swiftly. Quite proud of my comeback, if I say so myself. A growl erupts from her chest. I have to force myself not to roll my eyes. Damn Mutts. "Plus Evan asked for it himself, he shouldn't disrespect one of higher power of him," I sigh, using a cocky matter-of-fact tone towards her.
She snarls in reply. "Our Alpha is weak, he's half bred. He's not a true wolf like Evan is," I shake my head at her sadly. "Was," I wink at her. Yet despite my outer shell, my insides grew in fury at her disrespect.
"Enough chit chat," She snaps. "If our Alpha was so high and mighty, why did he run and leave his body here for us to find this morning?" She growls at me. Shit. I hope Derek didn't kill him. "I- I have to go," I mutter, trying to turn around. "See, you know I'm right. Our Alpha is weaker than the Omegas, he slept with a Hunter for crying out loud!" Okay. she pushed it. She's dead.
"What did you say?" I snarl, power radiating off of me as my anger shines in my eyes and through my voice. I hear some of the Mutts slightly whimper at the shift in energy. My fury is taking over me and I'm losing myself to the Hunter inside of me.
"Come here," I growl calmly, using my index finger to beckon her closer to me. She shakes her head defiantly. I tip my head to the side. "No?" I ask. She shakes her head a little more hesitantly this time. I sigh. "I do hate to kill to people in the space of the week, but what must be done. Must be done," I shrug simply at her. I was going to rip this bitch's head off. She stares at me, I can see the fear in her eyes, as she notices my changes. The bigger muscles, the bigger height. The white pupils and iris. She was scared, and i was going to show her why she should be. I stretch my arms out slowly, adding tension to the air. I stare her at her, straight in the eyes. "Run," I state calmly, before I take off in a sprint towards her.
Her Mutts listened, and they were gone. She stood in shock, staring at me. Her ginger her flowing in the wind as I get closer and closer. Realisation kicks in, and she turns quick enough to break her neck. I reach her, and when I do i grab at her hair, ready to pull her head off like I would with a Barbie doll.
"No," I'm tackled side ways, and the girl runs off like a cheater. "Stop killing my pack!" Zave's face is inches away from mine. I stare at him blankly. My body slowly losing energy as my Hunter leaves me, and I feel the sparks from Zave's hands on my bare arms.
He lifts me up in a bridal carry, sensing my sudden lack of energy. He walks me through the portal. I'm like key card, a Wolf can get in if they are touching a Hunter. Heck anyone can get in if they're touching a Hunter.
He knocks on the house door. Derek answers. Ignoring me. "Take her to her room, you know where it is," He nods at Zave. He seems so friendly towards him. Like they've known each other for years. "Do you know why she's like this?" Zave asks him. Ignoring me. "She used her inner Hunter, she most likely got so angry that the Hunter took over. She's always had a bad temper," He laughs. Yo Derek, I can hear you, you know! "She was about to rip one of my pack members head off, most likely in defence of me and my 'respect'," His chest rumbles with laughter. Does he not want his pack's respect?
Finally we make it to my room, and Zave places me on my un-made bed. "I swear it was made when I left." Zave chuckles. "You did, I slept here last night"
Oops, I must of said that out loud.
I nod at him. He sits next to me on the bed. "Derek told me to come in when you ran off yesterday. I spent all night worrying about you. I'm just glad you're safe now. So lets spend the day in your bed. We'll talk about yesterday tomorrow, I just want to be with you today," He smiles down at me. Stealing my breathe away. "Okay," I squeak.
"Lets take a nap," He suggests, wiggling down underneath the covers. I laugh at his movements, but copy him. Snuggling closer to his warm body after spending so long in the cold. He kisses my forehead softly. "I'm so glad you're safe" he mumbles against my hair.
"Lets start over when we wake up, okay?" He smiles again. Before we both fall in to a peaceful silence. My eyes grow heavy and I pull him closer to me to gain his warmth. I could get used to this!
