"Poor Alexis," a soft voice coos. "How are you doing my dear?" My eyes feel tight and I struggle to locate the voice.
"Who are you?" I struggle out, my chest feeling tight as I try to speak.
"You don't recognise me?" The voice mocks offence, yet seems quite proud that I don't. "Dear me, you're father really did try to forget me didn't he?" The voice questions, it now seems that it's a female voice, one that holds a lot of power.
"So how is you're mate, my dear girl?" The voice questions. "How... How do you know about him?" I ask, confusion laced in my tone.
"Oh honey, please. I know everything that happens in your life!" The voice smirks. If that's even possible.
"Who are you?" I snap with venom.
"Time will tell dearest, for now, Let's talk about Otis," The voice is quick to change the subject. I try to open my eyes again, but its no use.
"What does he have to do with this?" I question.
"Oh nothing dear, I mean he showed you, your curse, aren't you the least bit curious?" The voice chimes in my ear like an annoying bell that won't stop ringing.
"I haven't seen him," I reply to her.
"No." She states firmly. "But you've heard from him,"
"I don't know what your talking about," I lie.
"Don't bother lying, I was in the 'dream' with you and your mate," She snaps at me.
Her voice is filled with so much venom and hatred, I wonder why she doesn't track Otis down herself.
"Because your father enforced a hidden spell on him, I need you to kill Otis for me," Oh great. So she can read my mind as well.
"Why would I kill him when he protects my kind?" I ask her.
She hesitates before replying. "Because you'll be protecting your kind,"
"From what? I don't understand, what do you mean?"
"Your legacy! Your curse! You need to know the truth which he is keeping from you!"
"Wants so bad about that?" I reply! If the truth is so bad, why would I want to know?
"You need to save the Wolves and the Hunters. It's up to you to unite them, but he's stopping you,"
"How?"
"He's delaying you and your mate to be together, the night of the club, he made you pass out so you couldn't mate, he made you run away when your mate tried to kiss you, he's been making your mates pack destructive in order to buy him time!"
"Time for what?" I question the air.
"I've said too much... I have to go! I love you my child! Be safe!"
"Tell me who you are!"
"I'm your mo-" But the connection is cut. And she's gone.
I'm not an idiot. I knew she was going to say mother. I could sense our connection. Yet she smelt like Mutts.
My head begins to pound and I can't breathe again. My chest is tight and my body feels so fragile.
Then I'm awake. I'm in the ditch. Alone. There was no one here shouting my name. I was just dreaming. I was dreaming of my mother. Who I've never met, but has set me with the task of killing my guardian. The one who looked after me after my father passed away. He took over both my parents roles, allowing me to think I was an orphan.
The cold nips at my arms and I tuck them into my sides, wishing I wore some clothes a little more sensible than a T-shirt and leggins. I also wish Evan hadnt ripped my top, and that I had put some shoes on before running outside.
Oh how I wish I could tell the future.
I also wish I knew how to solve this riddle on my chest, but one thing is for sure. It's got something to do with my mate.
My body feels weak again, the exhaustion getting to me. It's still dark. I must have been out for atleast an hour. I'll leave the ditch in the morning. If I'm still alive, my ankle would have healed by then. The perks of being a Hunter comes with fast healing. Like them Mutts too.
I close my eyes, breathing in the nature. Listening to the traffic.
My stomach grumbles. I just ignore it. Maybe if I died, all this confusion and pain would go away. And I'd be safe.
I need to get to the bottom of this before I die. And killing Otis seems like the only answer.
