Cole and Rex thought it'd be best if we faked being sick and got sent home early. Cole still wasn't very happy with my choice of staying by my parents side but at least he wasn't as cold at me as before.
I sat cross-legged on the couch with a giant bowl of popcorn on my lap trying to focus on the tv. There was a look in Victor's eyes that reminded me of when he sucked the powers out of an innocent man. Those lifeless yet determined eyes were looking right through me. He wanted no one else but me. And he wasn't going to stop until he got it.
I felt the hairs on the back of my neck stand up in fear. Should I be on guard? My parents were both home, upstairs in their rooms so I didn't have to worry about them not being close.
Maybe I should start learning how to throw knives.
Yeah, like hell that was going to happened. With my luck I'd stab myself in the eye.
Although when I practiced at Cole's apartment a couple days ago I saw progress. Not enough to calm my impatient nature but still, there was a difference.
"You have to center yourself. Use your emotions to will your power but don't like it control your power." Cole stated. I looked at him with a tilt of my head.
"That sounds very Star Wars." I mummbled.
He scoffed. "I find it not surprising that you of all people watch that."
I crossed my arms. "What the hell does that mean?"
He smirked and I felt a cooling shiver rush down my spine. "Don't worry. Nerd looks cute on you." I blushed and shut my eyes. Concentrating on my center seemed a lot less complicated then concentrating on Cole.
"Breath easily. Think about the pillow a couple feet from you. Imagine it floating in the air. Nothing too extreme, just floating."
The pillow. The pillow. I am one with the pillow.
"This is stupid I can't get this right. It's a stinking pillow!"
"Waters wait--"
"No, I'm sick of all of this. One second I feel a a thread inside me and I tug it and stuff starts happening and other times I can't control when or how my powers are used! How do normal people work with this? Oh right, this isn't normal at all!"
"Can you just--?"
"I can't just anything Cole! Don't you see--"
"Will you shut up for one lousey second?" Cole belted and I quickly obeyed. Somehow in the my rant I opened my eyes and I stared blankly at him as he lifted his finger and pointed in the direction of the pillow. "You did. Your making the pillow float."
Low and behold, I was controlling the pillow. At least, it felt like I was. I felt my power surge around me and I smiled, feeling quite proud of myself. "That is pretty awesome."
"Yeah it is. Now all we have to do is figure out a way to shut you up." He winked at me. "I can think of many ways to control that."
"Sweetie? What on earth are you thinking about? You have a werid scowl on your face."
I jumped at least ten feet in the air before I turned to see my mom eyeing me strangely. I laughed nervously. "Sorry mom, I was just thinking about a really frustrating math problem. How are you?"
