I sat in the car, trying hard not to play with my hair. A nervous habit I had learned from my mother. I should probably call them soon. For whatever reason, I wanted to just hear my mother's voice. Cole eventually made his way to the car with the movies in his hand. He placed them in the backseat and started up the car and pulling out of the drive-way.

I sat with my hands in my lap, without saying a word. Call me a sensitive girl but hearing those words made me feel useless. Like a pathetic girl who needed to be saved by this guy. It went from a kind gesture to an excuse to use me.

I felt the room get frosty and looked at Cole. I zipped up my jacket but of course that didn't help. Supernatural cool worked wonders on frostbite. I mustered up the courage to say something. "Cole." I started.

No response.

"Cole!" I raised my voice. His stare was expressionless as he looked at me. "What?"

"I don't know what your problem is but this cold air thing isn't just affected you, it's freezing in here" I waved my hands around me. His face softened just a smidge. "I can't control it sometimes. I've noticed that."

Intrigued I leaned slightly closer. "Really? You've been having troubles with your powers?"

"Not troubles. Just some minor issues."

"Like?"

"Can you not use that whiney teenage girl voice of yours? Its distracting me from driving."

I scoffed. "I could do a lot more to distract you, trust me." I said, my mind whirling of violent ways to attack him.

He smirked but it lacked any humor. "You mean, like kissing me?"

I practically choked on air. After my coughing fit subsided I shook my head. "You kissed me. I didn't kiss you."

"But you kissed me back."

"You were trying to help me!"

He turned then, looking me straight in the air. His gaze gave me chills. "Was I?"

I paused for a second stunned. Did he just kiss me to kiss me?

Suddenly he laughed. And a real one too. "Relax, don't think too much about that. That man Mr. Carver, he's the one that you didn't trust at first right?"

Still strung up on his words I nodded slowly. "Yeah."

"I understand how you can sense that. He comes off as a regular my-life-sucks-I-hate-everything type of guy but there is a slight undertone to him. A dark one at that. We'll keep an eye on him but he doesn't really strike me as the supernatural type."

I was tempted to ask about what he whispered in my mind but I shoved the thought away. "So just keep an eye out on him that's it?"

"Yeah. And another thing." We reached a stop sign and his eyes looked directly into mine. Call your parents. They keep calling me every five seconds."

"....I am so disappointed in you! You couldn't have called for a least two seconds? Completely unacceptable young lady!" For the majority of the phone call I was tuning out. But I had to get the ends of her rant so at least I could pretend I was paying attention.

"Okay Mom, I understand all of that. But I'm alive and well and am late for my SAT class so I have to go. Chanel is helping me out and I can't afford to fail." That will get her off my back. If I know my mother like I think I do she will completely back off if it means I am striving for perfection.
