When someone is caught in the moment, you get to see how they react instinictively. Me for example, well I don't say a word. I lock up and my mouth gets suddenly dry. My finger tips tingle as do my other limps and I just stay there and stare until someone snaps me out of the stance that I'm in. I stared at the woman in the ice shackles and tried my hardest to breathe evenly. So far, it wasn't good.
"I can't believe this is happening." Rex said. He put his hands on his hips and started muttered sentences in spanish to himself. "She shouldn't be alive. We need to find out why she's here."
"Don't you think I know that?" Cole snapped, his eyes never leaving the woman. "But how do we know if she'll tell the truth. She's been known to change peoples minds."
The woman's eyes softened. "You know that's not true. I'm here for a reason if you just let me explain."
"Anything that comes out of your mind to me is bullshit. How am I supposed to believe you?"
"Wait why?" Rex started walking up the steps towards Cole. "Just because she's back doesn't mean that she is some liar now. She was the most truthful person we knew."
"Can someone please tell me, what the hell is going on?" Somehow, someway I found my voice and it came out a lot sharper than I expected after being silent for so long. Rex looked sadly in my direction. "Lea was a friend of ours back in high school. We all went to the same school in fact--"
"Shut up your mouth Rex or I'll shut it for you." Cole barked. Rex looked like he wanted to say more but just shook his head. I heard the sound of a door opening and Chanel walked in with a frustrated yell. "Everyones emotions in this room are all over the place that it's becoming impossible to ignore and trust me, I've been trying." Within a blink of an eye Cole grabbed Chanel roughly and pulled her towards Lea. "You need to read her. Let me know if she's lying after what I've asked."
Chanel finally got a good look at the girl and her eyes went wide. "Who is this girl?"
"That's not important. Is it possible?"
Chanel suddenly looked shy. "I don't know, I've never tried on a person before... wait! I think I remember what to do. It's the same thing I did with you in the park."
The same thing she did with Cole in the park? That was when he told me I reminded him of someone. Could that someone have been his girlfriend.
I guess it's a step up from his mother. Because that would have been uncomforabe.
Lea continued to struggle aganist the icey shackles as Chanel takes a step forward. "You don't have to do this Chanel! Cole you can't boss her around like this."
"It's fine Celcila. I feel like I have to do this." She sounded confident but it still didn't sit well with me. She closed her eyes and stuck two fingers up, gently pressed them on Lea's forehead. The struggling stopped and she fell limply.
After a slight pause, she woke up. "'Kay, she should be totally honest right now." Chanel moved out the way and Cole stepped in her place. He lifted his hand and the ice shackles melted almost instantly. "Why are you here Lea."
Her smile was errie. Like a porcelain doll. "I wanted to see you again."
Cole jaw clenched angrily. "Why?"
"I missed you Cole. I thought you had died in that fire. Everyone else did. Except for me and my father."
"How did you two survive the fire. It was a blast, the forest was burned down for miles." Rex added.
