The moment I set my eyes i knew that I had finally found the girl of my dreams, I probably sounded like a possessed stalker but I wasn't, I was just a guy who had found the girl of his dreams she was so beautiful and carried an aura of calmness with her.
Her bright orange hair bobbed up and down as she laughed with a friend that I assumed sitting across from her, I had never been this fixated on a girl before but she was different I had a gut feeling.
“Cameron stop standing and get to work, I don’t pay to drool like a fool” my boss’s voice snapped me out of my thoughts
“Sorry Mr Barber” I apologised
“Yeah, yeah” he grumbled and stormed back into his office
“Close one” I muttered underneath my breath
I quickly put my apron on and got a pen and notepad for taking orders, my smile was in place and I headed to the table where the girl I had been drooling over was sat
“Hi welcome to Reverie, what can I get you?” I asked her, she looked prettier close up and her hair brighter; her smile was so infectious that I couldn’t help but return a real one of my own
“I’ll have a fruit bowl and an orange juice please” her friend spoke and I forgot she was there; my mind was so focused on her
I scribbled her order on my note pad and waited for the other order “I’ll just have a chicken and bacon sandwich and some coke”
“Coming right away” I said as I fled from their table and went to get both their orders, normally I was supposed to get four more orders so that the people making the food could do it all together but I wanted to see more of her face, maybe even talk to her some more
“Thanks, that was quick” her friend muttered giving me the money but the girl that I was so focused merely smiled and went back to the conversation indicating that I could leave
I walked away and to another table to take their order but my mind was focused on the girl with bright orange hair; I glanced at their table and saw that it was occupied by someone else.
“Hi mum” I greeted on the phone
“Hi darling, how was work?”
“It was great, I met someone”
“Really” her voice was laced with surprise
“Yes mum I did no need to get surprised”
“Oh no…darling…I’m just happy and maybe a bit surprised”
“I’m just teasing mum, so how’s dad and Hayley”
“Oh they’re fine but don’t you dare change the subject tell me about this young lady”
“Well I didn’t really talk to her except when I was getting her order and her friend’s order but then they left”
“Well that’s a shame maybe you’ll see her again”
“Yeah me too she’s really pretty”
“Well you deserve a pretty girl and maybe you won’t put so much stress on yourself when you have her to focus on”
“Mummm can we not start this again. I’m perfectly fine and I’ve reduced my workload at college”
“Fine but I’m only looking out for you”
“I know”
“Good I’ve got to go, your dad still doesn’t know how to change a nappy” At this I chuckled, she kept telling me stories about how he was hopeless with Hayley as she was just a year old
“Okay, bye love you”
“Love you too” she said then hung up
It was past twelve midnight and I was up playing on my game console, I was a pretty lonely person keeping myself to myself and it didn’t help that I wasn’t the most social of people so people thought I was rude and snobby meaning that I had very few friends but I that was fine; they were trustful friends and I’d known them since the beginning of college
My phone rang; I quickly glanced at the caller i.d. and saw that it was Ben
“Hey Ben” I greeted, in the background I could hear loud pop music
“Cameron are you still up?”
“Seeing as I’m talking to you on the phone”
“Shut up smartass; I just wanted to ask if you wanted to come to a party”
“Past twelve at night”
“Yeah it’s on the beach and there’s already a shit load of people here” he had a tendency to swear a lot
“I think I’ll pass and stay in the comfort of my home”
“But your insomnia is keeping you up so you might as well come down and interact the whole gang’s here”
“I’ll be fine Ben seriously just enjoy the party”
“Fine be like that” he snapped and hung up; I knew for a fact he wasn’t mad at me maybe a bit annoyed but not mad he’d done that on many occasions and we’d carry on as if nothing happened the next day
Still not feeling tired or sleepy at all I went back to my games console and carried on playing
“You missed the best party to have ever been thrown last night” Ben settled himself on the chair across from me as I was eating my lunch. I pulled out my earphones out so that I could hear what he was saying
“What made it so good?”
“Well for one, girls were dressed in their bikinis so lots of flesh showing if you know what I mean” he wiggled his eyebrows up and down while I laughed
“Is that all?”
He blinked “Yes that’s all you need for it to be a good party”
“So did you end up leaving with someone?”
“Naa most of them recognised me from games design and pegged me as a geek and god forgive they actually sleep with someone that had brains as opposed to guys who’ll probably become brick layers when they’re older” a scowl formed on his face
“Ben we’re in college not high school. People come to university so that they can pursue a career and I’m sure you’ll find someone soon”
“Don’t feed me that bullshit” he muttered but his anger wasn’t directed at me. I felt sorry for the pasta that he was stabbing
“Ben don’t sell yourself short” I said before packing my belongings and heading to work
“Yeah, yeah” he muttered
“I’ve got to go, bye”
