I picked her up, and set her in the couch I had in my office. Calling over Karim, in the process.

"Yes, Sahib?" he asked but his eyes landed to the sleeping beauty in the couch and instantly scowled at the figure. I gave him a piece of my mind by glaring, and told him to give me medicine that might help in the bloody fever this woman has. He begrudgingly went to do as I asked as I was left to wallow in my own thoughts.

Looking over at the woman's head that was now resting on my lap, after I put it there, I have not let myself dwell on the thoughts of her changing the man I have become.

Bloody woman.

That was another thought that bothered me. I couldn't believe that being in her presence, that I have already picked up some vulgar things from her –like cursing. I was suddenly reminded of how we danced at the ball that I went to with the woman whom I can no longer remember on my arm. And then I saw her there.

In the sea of colorful and graceful peacocks, she was the only girl there to have a courage to defy such nature. She might not be the graceful peacock that most in the room would be. No –she was a strong, like an independent female eagle. She looked like none other who was actually enjoying the ball. I actually felt myself almost smiling that night. Due to our mutual agreement.

I hated going through those pathetic balls. They were only a waste of time.

I hardly have any time to think more, since the sleeping beauty stirred in my lap. I turned to look at her, as she muttered something incoherent under her breath. I chuckled as I moved the hair that fell to her face to the side of her head. I remembered her like this. Looking so sincere, calm and graceful like the lady she wasn't.

But only, that memory did not really favored my interest.

Since, she was laughing (genuinely and willingly, might I add) with another man. They were both laughing at the dance floor as she galloped –still looking beautiful as she did so. I stopped paying attention to those around me who probably was saying nonsense about me and them actually being friends. As if I would consider this, the answer would always be flat out no.

I walked towards the crowds, my eyes glued to the soaring eagle in the dance floor. She was actually talking to the man. Whatever happened to the girl who absolutely loathed to be dependent to a man? What happened to the girl who refused to stay at home and be married and look pretty for the rest of her life?

I snapped back to my reality thinking back to the woman who was still sleeping in my lap.

I see her eyes start to open slowly, and she mumbled a silent "Sir?" and then drifted to sleep again. I chuckled, and shook my head at her, as Karim entered the door with a towel and water with medicine. He placed it at the table beside the couch as I took the towel and placed it in Lily's forehead.

Lily.

It was only supposed to be a flower. It was only supposed to be a word that described a white flower, nothing extravagant –but a blooming flower, nevertheless. But now, that word was no longer a mere word –but something that described a person. A person that just happens to turn the world upside down when she pleases, and is capable of having what she wants but not served to her. No, never that.

She wanted to be the one to take what she wants.

"Sahib, be careful with this one." I heard Karim say as he exited before I could even reply. I sighed, knowing better to doubt his advice –especially when I know he was right.

But, how could I be careful with her when I want to be the one caring for her?
