I might kill this kid. I get it. Sam likes Fallon, and I should try to like him, but he wouldn't leave me alone. He kept rambling on about how he had to right his wrongs and Fallon was his only way to do that. Thank goodness Alec was sitting in here with me. I do feel bad that Fallon tried to kill him, but that wasn't her. That was some weird creature in Fallon's body.
After a while of wanting to stab myself, Sam finally left. Hallelujah.
"Alec, will you braid my hair? I don't want to throw up all over my hair," I requested.
"Just because I'm gay doesn't mean that I can do hair," Alec insisted.
"True. But you grew up with a sister," I sighed.
"Good point. What kind of braid do you want?" he asked.
"I don't care. Surprise me," I smiled.
I sat criss-cross applesauce on the floor besides Alec's bed in the infirmary. He swung his feet over, temporarily hurting his broken ribs, and he winced in pain. His fingers slowly began twisting my dark hair into some fancy thing that I tried not to wrap my head around.
"Why hasn't Hero come to see if you're okay?" Alec asked, his deep voice resonating throughout the room.
"He came about an hour ago, when you were unconscious. He brought me some french fries, but I threw them up. Hero has never had a strong stomach, so he left before you woke up," I explained.
"Oh. Okay. What are we going to do about Fallon?" Alec wondered.
"What do you mean?" I questioned, handing him a hair tie.
"Adeline, she almost killed me. If Clary hadn't knocked her out, I... Sorry. She's your parabati. I couldn't imagine if it were Jace in this position," he said.
Before I could answer, Clary popped in the doorway. "Adeline, Fallon is awake. Are you ready to talk to her?"
I nodded, grabbing the half-full fast food bag on my temporary cot.
~.~.~
"Okay," Clary instructed, "Adeline and Jace are going in. Addie-"
"Only Fallon can call me that," I growled.
"Adeline," she corrected, "you are the only person she'll talk to right now. Jace, you are the only person who would kill her if need be. Of course, that will be a last resort."
"Wait, kill her?" I yelled.
"It's not going to come to that," Izzy cooed. "Jace is just going to make sure nothing happens to you. We don't know what came over Fallon earlier, and if it happens again, we want to be prepared." I stayed quiet. Fallon was behind a locked door who only Jace had the key.
The room was as dark as the night itself. Fallon sat in a single white light shining on her, with legs crossed. Although her hair was pulled up into a ponytail like usual, it looked messy, as though she had been struggling with the ropes that bound her for a while.
"Addie," Fallon exclaimed. "Do you have food for me?" I tossed her the greesy McDonald's bag. "You're a true saint, you know that?"
"Thanks," I laughed. "How are you?"
"Aside from the fact that I was possessed by something? Pretty good," she smirked.
"I don't think you were possessed. I would have felt something. It kinda just felt normal. Do you remember anything from your freak out?" I asked.
"Not really. I remember you throwing up after I killed the mundie, but nothing after that," she admitted. Jace suspiciously stepped into the light.
"I don't believe her," he growled.
"She's telling the truth. You know how parabati works," I sassed. "Now get back to the corner where you belong."
Jace slumped back by the door, not saying another word.
"Why is he in here?" Fallon asked, raising her voice.
"Clary and Isabelle thought it would be best if I didn't come talk to you alone. Back at the laser tag place, you nearly killed Alec and broke Simon's arm. Simons okay now, but even with the healing runes, Alec won't be on his feet for a few days. We just weren't sure if you'd completely recovered from your episode," I explained.
"What's wrong with Alec?"
"Broken ribs. Blood loss. Fractured ankle," I listed.
"Blood?"
The word triggered her. If not for the restraints, Fallon might have lunged at me. Next thing I knew, Jace was pulling me out of that room as if my life depended on it... And it did.
"What did you find out?" Clary asked.
"Give her a minute to breathe, Clary. Her best friend nearly attacked her," Jace scolded. I tried to choke it down, but another round of vomit wound up all over Jace's shoes.
"I think Simon needs to talk to her. I believe she may be turning into a vampire."
"Impossible," Izzy said. "A vamp would have drained her, not turned her."
"Then is it possible that one of her parents was a vampire?" I asked. "She's never known her parents, and Clary's step-dad is a werewolf, but her mom is still pregnant. I know its not normal, but doesn't it make the most sense?"
After a moment of silence, Clary walked away. When she returned, Simon was on her arm. He walked into Fallon's room, but turned around a second later.
"She's gone," Simon said, absolutely horrified.
