I threw a weeks worth of outfits into my duffle bag, along with my music, makeup, and usual weapons. Along side that was my guitar case.

"Got everything?" Addie popped her head into my room and I nodded.

"Hero coming?" I asked. I threw the bag on my shoulder.

"Yeah, he's just about done getting ready. Come on, Holland will be P.O.ed if we don't hurry." Addie turned an left. Hero joined beside Adeline and grabbed her hand and his.

"Hey, Bae." He smiled and, ew, kissed her. Holland was waiting for us in the main room.

"Alright. The warlock is waiting just outside." Holland lead us outside to the side of the Institution. The Asian male with colorful hair leaned against the building.

"Hey," he said without a smile. "Let's just do this so I can go home." The man looked familiar, but I couldn't put my finger on it.

"Do I know you?" I asked as we approached.

"Probably. Magnus, the amazing warlock."

"Oh! You're the warlock who fell for a Shadowhunter," Hero snickered. Idiot.

"Yes, I am."

I smiled when the warlock smirked. I watched as the warlock's fingers sparked blue as he created a portal. It swirled with blue shades.

"Now come on," Magnus ushered. Hero jumped in first being the manly man; he was followed by Addie. I clutched my guitar case and bag before taking my jump. The air rushed from my lungs and I nearly released my bag and guitar. Every rune on my body burned. The feeling only lasted a matter of seconds before I stumbled from portal and onto the ground. I gasped for air. When I opened my eyes, I was not at the New York Institution.

"Hello?" I croaked. There was always a possibility that this would happen.

"Are you okay?" A male with snowy white hair kneeled by me. "Looks like a portal jump went wrong." He reached out his hand.

"Y-yes." I nodded and grasped his hand. He pulled me to my feet. "Thank you. May I ask where I am?"

"New York. I'm... Call me Sam." His toothy smile flashed white teeth that matches his hair.

"I'm Fallon. So you know about portals?" I asked and brushed off the dust from my pants.

"Yes, I am a-a Shadowhunter." His voice was smooth, but the words didn't see me to fit in his mouth.

"Me too. Then you must know where the New York Institution is." He nodded. "Good, I could probably find it on my own, but now you make it much easier."

"Y-yes I know where it is, but there is a small problem." His voice was small. I raised and eyebrow and crossed my arms.

"What?"

"I'm not exactly welcome there," he sighed.

"Oh." It wasn't an uncommon thing for a Shadowhunter to be unwelcome at one of the Institutions. "Would you mind showing me the way? You don't have to go close or anything."

"Sure," he smiled. "Anything for a pretty girl." My cheeks flashed red, and I gave a small smile.

"Thank you. I'm sorry to put you in this situation."

"No, no, it really is no problem. Come on. Maybe I can show you some sightseeing spots. May I?" he asked, reaching for my bag. I nodded and he took it into his shoulder.

"Maybe I could take you to get coffee sometime? I mean if you don't like coffee we can always do something else." His pale skin tinted pink. I laughed and nodded.

"It's a deal," I nodded.

"Do you play?" he asked motioning to my guitar.

"Yes of course. Why else would be luging it around?" I laughed.

"I play a little also," he smiled. "Mostly acoustic."

"I do a little bit of everything. The band I'm in doesn't have a specific genre we play. We do a little Indie, a little rock, a little bit of pop here and there and some covers," I rambled on about my passion.

"Do you sing as well?" he asked.

"Yes," I nodded, "lead singer."

"Oh, so what's the band called?" Sam asked as we walked.

"Blackbird. It's a combo of mine and my friend's last names." As I walked Sam slowed to a stop.

"This is as far as I go, I'm sorry. I do hope I will see you around. There's the Institute." He pointed to an old building.

"Thank you." I took my bag from him and smiled. "We'll have to go get that coffee sometime."

"I'm sure we will see each other again." He flashed me another one of his white toothed guns before turning heel and jogging off.

"Where were you?" Addie asked as I walked up to the Institute.

"Portal mess up. I was only a few blocks away, but a boy helped me out."

"Ooh a boy?" Addie giggled. "Come on, let's go."
