Jack's POV
Today was my first day at my new high school. I am afraid of what lies ahead. I am from Ireland in fact, this is my second week in America. You see my father got this job offering in California and I've seen some movies about transfer students getting harassed. My mom says I'll for sure make new friends. In Ireland I had many 'friends' when I say that it was just people who were at the going away party. I had one true friend.
Today I decided to pull on a green thin t-shirt and my cap I used almost everyday back at my old high school. I said a quick goodbye to my mom than headed to the bus. I smiled noticing someone my age and sat on a bench by him.
"Top of the morning to you." I smile and sat by this man who looked at me as if I did something terrible. Usually my mom would say keep a smile on so that's what I did.
"I'm Jack, what's your name?" When he looks at me I can't help but smile. Even though he doesn't respond or smile back.
"I'm Mark." He looked back forward. Something was special about him, I could tell.
"Do you have any hobbies?" I see a smile twitch on his lips but than he frowns.
"Yeah I like video games, reading and drawing I suppose, what about you." He looked over at me like he was studying me.
"Video games are great! I like colors a lot." I perked up because now we were finally talking.
"I don't think that color is a hobby." He raised an eyebrow as a smile almost appeared on his lips.
"It could be! Look at it my way, colors are very interesting-"
"No they really aren't. Sure colors are pretty but they aren't that interesting." half a smile grew on his face.
"Fine than! Colors are pretty and in my perspective the more objects that look ordinary the more color you should add to it so-"
"So you graffiti things?" He questioned raising an eyebrow smirking slightly.
"No! I do not graffiti things mister Mark! I just maybe want different colors for different things. Like a neon green bench instead of a brown bench." He looks at me and shakes his head.
"Jack, that's vandalizing."
"No it is not, I have never painted anything-"
"You just said it was your hobby!" Mark smiled but closed mouth smile.
"Yes, well... I do it in my head! Gosh you are so critical mister Mark!"
"A neon green bench was it?" Mark ran a hand through his hair and I nodded.
The bus rolled up and we got on. Mark headed for the back seat and I sat by him.
"You won't tell anyone, right?" My voice wavered. What if he told the whole school I thought of green benches or blue sidewalks. I would be the school's joke.
"Your secret is safe with me, I promise." he rolled his eyes than smiled.
A smile that would out shine any dark room.
Maybe highschool won't be too bad.
