Maths was first, our teacher droning on about angles of triangles and angle bearings and so forth until my eyes dropped and I almost fell asleep. Rose prodded me to keep me awake, a bit like an alarm clock, and I wished I could simply hit the snooze button on school. Our teacher handed out multiple worksheets and told us to finish them in ten minutes. I stared blankly at them for a few moments before realising I hadn't a clue what they were about. Whereas Rose was scribbling down answer after answer. I bit my lip and guessed at them, knowing that they were far from correct. Suddenly, Chris turned around from the row in front and asked me what the answer to question four was. His hair flopped over his forehead and for a second I was mesmerised, until he waved a hand in front of my face, saying, "Hello? Anyone in there?" Not in a harsh tone, but a more friendly, joking way. I grinned, then realised that I probably looked like an idiot and stopped. "The bearing is 045°," I say, and he gives me a thumbs up and jots it down. When he turns around again he is grinning, too, in a goofy way. "Thanks," he says.
