Regret

How did I sleep last night?

Sammie's Pov

I slowly open my eyes and groan. 

I hate mornings.

I force myself out of bed and get ready for school. About thirty minutes later I'm munching on pancakes while my mom does her usual retinue, which is frantically rushing around the house for her keys.

"I cant find them! Sam help me" She says tossing the pillows off the couch.

I frown and walk into her room and check under her nightstand. I sigh. "I found them!" I say tossing them to her as I walk down stairs. She smiles.

"Thank you"  I nod and finish eating my pancakes. I was off my dish and look at the time. I hear a knock on the door.

Right on time.

 "Sam, Alex is here" she says grabbing her work bag. Alex started carpooling me to school every morning. He exact words were 'I know that you're a lazy bum so I'm going to carpool you every morning'.

He so nice to me.

I open the door expecting to see a very sarcastic Alex but instead I'm met with a very energetic Zach. "Hey" I say a bit surprised.

Zach smiles. "Hey, I know your probably wondering where Alex is" I nod and grab my bag that's beside the door. "Bye mommy!" I yell before walk out the door. I hear a muffled 'bye' and look at Zach nervously. "Is he ok?"

Zach nods. "He said that he wouldn't be able to carpool you anymore" He says. I bite my lip. He doesn't live to far from me. How could he not be able to carpool me anymore? I nod and get into Zach car.

-Skips to 1st period-

I walk in and lay my head on my desk.

"So tired" I say quietly as my eyelids start to drop. Suddenly feel a sharp pain on my back. I wince and jolt up.

"Ow" I say rubbing my back. "Sorry buddy. You can't go to sleep though" Janie says sitting next to me. I nod and rest my head on my hand. "Did you even sleep last night?" She asks shaking her head.

I nod. "In fact I did. For about 2 hours. " I guess I was sitting there thinking longer than I thought.

Janie sighs. "Well I'll make it my personal job to keep you awake" She says shaking my shoulders. "S-s-stop s-shaking me" Mrs. Tines walks in and gets her stuff set up. 

Where's Alex? I think looking around. Mrs. Tines starts class but I'm not focused. My mind keeps drifting to where Alex is. Is he hurt?, Maybe something happened to his car, and that's why he couldn't pick me up. Maybe he- My thought are interrupted by Mrs. Tines voice.

"Alex where have you been?"

I look at the door and see Alex standing there with a bored expression on his face. He shrugs and starts walking to his seat. Mrs. Tines sighs. "Well I'll just see you at detention" Mrs. Tines says turning back to the board. I bite my lip. Where was he? I shake my head. He probably had something important to do. I try to focus on what Mrs. Tines is saying but my mind keeps drifting back to Alex. After a while I stop trying and think about random things. Before I know it the class ends. I gather my stuff and walk out with Janie and then we split going our separate ways.

~Last class of the day~

I take seat next to Zach and smile. "Hey" He smiles. "Hey, ready to turn in the project?" I nod. The teacher goes onto the stage.

"Good afternoon class, I know you all expect to be preforming your projects,  but that's not what will happen" He smirks. "You'll be performing someone else's"

A low mummer goes around the class room. " I will be picking which performance you will preform" I pout. Now I gotta learn a whole new script and what if I don't like the performance, what then?

I sigh and lean onto Zach. He brings his arms around my shoulders and starts to play with my hair. Plus, Alex isn't even here, so he doesn't know.

I lean my head on Zach's shoulder. I think the teacher said more after that but I blocked him out. I feel someone kiss my head.

"Sammie it's ok. It's not that bad and maybe it'll be fun". I nod and close my eyes tired.

 "Zach have you talked to Alex lately?" I feel Zach tense under me. "No, not recently. Why?"

I miss him.

Is what I wanted to say but I couldn't say that. That'd be a bit odd.

I shrug. "Haven't seen him around lately" Zach relaxes a little. "He's probably just busy"

I nod. Zach's probably right.

A little bit later the bell rings and everyone starts to leave the room. I bite my lip and start to gather my things. Zach notices and grabs my chin. "No lip biting missy" He says as he brings his lips to mine, I melt into the kiss.

He tries to deepen it but I pull back before he can. He pouts and I smirk. "I'm gonna walk home" I say resisting to bite my lip. Zach pouts even more if its possible.

"But Sammie-"

"No buts, I wanna stroll home" I say biting my tongue after. Upset, he nods and pecks my lips before leaving. I sigh and grab the last of my things.

I hear my phone vibrate. Zach. I shake my head at his over protectiveness, grab my phone and unlock it. I'm surprised to see an unknown number. I open the message and realize that it isn't an unknown number. Its a number I'm far too familiar with. I shudder and read the message.

Hey Babe ;) Miss you. I'll see you soon though.

I shudder and text him back.

What? I think you have the wrong number.

I sit down and wait for his reply.

Its not good to lie. Can't wait to hang out like we used to. Just me and you.

I stiffen.

How'd he get my number? Does he know where I am? I shake my head and grab my things. I leave the class and start walking towards the front of the school.

He cant know where I am. I'm far from there.

I wasn't concentrating and accidently bump into to someone and start to topple over. I close my eyes and get ready for impact but it never comes. I open my eyes and see very familiar eyes. The same eyes that belong to someone I was best friends with. I instantly forget about the text messages.

 "Sammie" The boy says.

"Jay"
