As he reached the great doors of the bank of Cherengrat, Hanz Heartwell was feeling less confident. Everyone that was already working in the bank was rich and powerful, just one look at the Heartwell's house would tell anyone that the Heartwell family were poor and unneeded in the town.
Plus, with the way the baker had treated him that morning, Hanz thought, "Others might treat me the same..."
Entering the great building, Hanz came out into the lobby, it was all very posh, with fine silk sofas and a glowing water fountain in the middle of the large room. Hanz felt more and more alone...
"Hello," a voice behind him said, "you must be the new bank assistant. What's your name sir?"
"Hanz Heartwell," he stated whilst turning around.
The man was wearing a thin, black tweed suit with a crisp, ironed white shirt underneath, he had a pleasant face and looked like one of the banks superiors.
"I'm Mr. Barling. I will be your boss here, follow me please,"
Mr. Barling led Hanz out of the banks lobby and into a wide elevator. The elevator had a big mirror covering one of its walls and a metal plate full of buttons covering the wall next to it.
Mr. Barling swiftly pushed a few of the buttons and the large elevator lurched downwards. After about one minute the elevator slowed to a halt. As the doors opened, about ten burly workers rushed as Hanz and his boss walked out of this new transportation method.
The next 5 minutes were spent walking down long spindling corridors entering the occasional room. Finally Hanz entered his room, it was not as big as he had hoped but it was big enough. It had a huge red carpet covering the floor, a large desk, a computer, a couple of chairs and a comfy looking leather couch.
As Hanz sat down on his desk, his boss gave him an ominously tall looking pile of paperwork telling him to fill it out.
It took him the whole day but Hanz finally managed to fill in the large stack of paper.
Walking down the corridor, entering and exiting the lift and striding up to the reception desk, Hanz received that day's wages.
Happily looking into his hands he counted his money. It was the biggest sum of money he had ever received!
