Nava Research Center ~ Kotoko Minami's POV

"What...?!" Miss Detective gasped. "But that's impossible...! The crimes are supposed to take place at night!"

I didn't understand the bad guy that well, but if he was supposed to kill people at nighttime, then I guess him doing it at half one in the afternoon is kind of strange!

"Where did the crime take place...?!" Miss Detective demanded. The officer man looked terrified of her! "Th-There's a block of apartments in the town! The crime took place in one of those apartments!"

Miss Detective stormed away from us and left the building, stepping into her car while talking into a weird machine she wore in her ear. I was left there a bit confused: should I go with her, or should I stay behind and go home?

Miss Detective turned back to me with a small frown. "Are you coming along, Kotoko?" she asked. "We're going to the headquarters before heading out to the crime scene."

"You mean where you work?!" I gasped. "Am I even allowed to be there?!"

"If I say you're allowed, then it's fine." she responded. "Come on, let's go." I thought about what she said as I followed her into her car. Does she really have that much authority, or does she just scare people into following her orders? I think it's the last one.

Interpol Headquarters ~ Julia Kirigiri's POV

Q had told me that he had some information on the culprit for me, so I immediately made my way over to his office, Kotoko following behind me.

A soft meow stopped me in my tracks as I entered the room, as well as something fuzzy coming into contact with my leg. I looked down and saw a yellow cat nuzzling my leg, purring loudly. I recognised it as one of Q's cats, which he occasionally brought to work with him. I allowed myself to be distracted for just a few moments as I knelt down to gently stroke the cat on the chin. It was rather cute.

"Ah, Julia! You're here!" I heard Q's voice call, so I followed the sound of the voice while leaving Kotoko to interact with the felines, as a black cat had soon wandered up to the girl. At least it would give her something to do while she waited.

"What have you got for me?" I asked as I approached Q and his computer.

"I found out some information on our culprit." he began. "His name's Shane Driscoll. He was convicted of murdering eight individuals at least fourteen years ago under the name the Nightfall Killer. He was given the death penalty and his execution was due two years ago, but nobody's seen him in a while."

"Two years ago?" I repeated, eyes widening with alarm. "Are there reports of any prison breakouts regarding Mr. Driscoll?"

"It doesn't display any here." Q replied. "Even if the police covered it up, it should still be easy to find."

"I'll be counting on you, Mr. Hacker." I remarked with a small smirk as I made my way for the door. "I'll be expecting updates as soon as you find something."

"A-Actually, why don't I come with you this time around?" Q suggested, sliding his laptop into a bag. I paused, turning to face him with a small frown.

"Aren't you always complaining about how you hate fieldwork?" I reminded him.

"Well... yes." he admitted.

"Then why are you coming?"

"... I have my reasons."

I hesitated before turning to Kotoko, who was giggling as one of the cats nuzzled her cheek. "It's time to go." I told her, much to her disappointment. She pouted as she stood up.

"Why is there a child here?" Q whispered. "Is she your replacement for Griffin or something?"

"She might as well be his replacement." I responded. "She's been more helpful to me these past few weeks than Griffin has been in a whole year."

"So, where are we going?" Kotoko asked before turning to Q. "Who are you?"

I was certain that Q was about to introduce himself with the wittiest line he could come up with, so I stepped in before he could confuse the poor girl. "Kotoko, this is Q. Q, Kotoko Minami. Now that introductions are over, let's head out to the crime scene."

"Is Q really your name?" Kotoko questioned as we left the building. "A single letter can't be your real name. I bet it's just your codename."

Neither of us responded.
