Luke's pov

I don't know how this is possible, this doesn't make sense...
"You are stupid enough to actually come back here?" Derek snickered, leaning on the doorway of Michaels' house.
His cold blue eyes moved between Michael and me, his thin lips pulling up in an amusing grin.
How is this possible? We left him at my place, there's no way he could've gotten here before us unless he took a car. But even then he'd have to break in the house and wait for us to arrive which only took less than three minutes. How did he get here before us?
I gripped on to Michaels' shirt, careful of his folded wings. My hands shook with anxiety, my breathing becoming faster and I gripped on to Michael tighter until my knuckles turned white. I could feel his muscles tense.  He knew what was happening to me and he reached behind his back to grab my hand.
"Funny, and I thought you'd be smart enough to stay down." Michael replied sarcastically.
The smug grin on Derek's face changed to one of anger.
"Give back what is mine Michael and I'll consider letting you live."
Without Derek noticing, Michaels' free hand reached back to pass me one of the bags. I let go of his shirt and slipped the bag on my shoulder.
"Luke is mine." Michael snarled deeply, his back vibrating from the sound.
I couldn't help but blush at Michaels words.
"You wish. Didn't your mama ever tell you it's not nice to take what's not yours? Oh, wait, you don't have a mama don't you?" Derek snickered.
"Don't."
"She left you. All alone to die. Who would want a freak like you?"
"I said don't." Michael growled. His voice so deep it didn't sound human anymore.
Derek's smile faltered as Michael lunged toward him.
He let go of my hand and was in front of Derek in a blink of an eye. In one swift motion Michael grabbed Derek's neck and threw him further into the house.
I grabbed onto Michaels' shoulders before he had a chance to go after him and tugged him the opposite way. "Come on, we need to go before he comes back. "
Michaels' muscles relaxed and he nodded. I grabbed his hand and pulled him behind me as we broke into a run.
"Where are we going?" Michael asked as we dodged into an alley way to avoid the busy Main Street.
"Just trust me okay?" I replied and turned another corner into another alleyway.  I know the way like the back of my hand.
"Uh, we got company." Michael said and I looked back to see he was right. Two guys who I assume are Derek's minions, were just turning the corner and heading towards us.
"Shit," I mumbled,"we're almost there."
After we turned another corner, I let go of his hand and stopped.
"What are we doing?" Michael asked but I ignored him and looked for the spare key that was always left out for me.
I checked under the place mat until i felt the cold metal of a rusted key.
"They're coming Luke..." Michael informed nervously, eyeing the alleyways. I could hear their footsteps now, they were almost  here.
I fumbled with the key nervously, missing the lock.
"Luke..." Michael whined nervously.
The footsteps were close, they were just about to turn the corner.
I finally got the key in the lock and twisted it. The door opened with the usual whine of the hinges.
"Come on." I whispered. I turned around and grabbed the collar of a distracted Michael and pushed him inside. I followed behind, took the key out of the lock and closed the door. I turned around and leaned against it, trying to be as quiet as possible.
Michael looked at me, his wings fidgeting behind him nervously.
The footsteps turned the corner and stopped. Michaels breath hitched in unison with mine.
"Where do you think they went?" A guy guy said, his voice raspy and hoarse from running.
"I don't know, they couldn't have gone far, come on, let's check towards maple and come around on main. " another guy said, his voice a little quieter and softer than the first guy.
"Good idea." The first guy said.
Silence.
I looked over at Michael who was looking at me. His green eyes were darker due to the little light that was provided by a single naked light bulb hanging from the ceiling.
The door handle rattled from the other side. I froze in place and stared down at the door handle.
My heart raced in my chest. Michael lunged forward at the handle and held it in place.
"Are you coming Craig?" The second guy questioned.
The handle rattled a few more times before he stopped. "Ya...I'm coming."
They started running again, their footsteps becoming distant as they got further away.
We sighed in relief.
"Where are we?" Michael asked, looking around at his surroundings.
We stood in a small room with dark wooden floors that were spotted with black stains from years of use. The walls had a dark shade of red wallpaper with patches missing here and there that exposed the wood behind it. A few boxes were pushed up against the wall next to the opposite door leading further into the building.
"The library..." I mumbled and Michaels' eyes widened.
"You okay?" I asked worriedly.
He bit his plump pink lips and stared down at the floor.
"My aunt Carol worked here..." He said softly.
Before I could reply the opposite door opened, drawing our attention.
"Luke?" The older boy asked and then looked to Michael, "who are you?"
Michael looked at me, unsure of what to say or do.
"Um, we need your help Ashton..."
