"Stay with me
Lie with me
Be with me...here
Rise with me
Come with me
Find your release"
Flight Risk's first hit song "With Me" began to play loudly from my phone, signaling that it was time to get ready for work. I had a really healthy dislike for early mornings, but waking up to the sound of his voice wasn't exactly on my list of negatives for the days Kristy wasn't working.
"Ugh..." I groaned, squeezing my eyes shut even tighter against the sunlight streaming through my window. The hangover I had been dreading was pretty mild, but that didn't change the fact that I was tired and desperately wanted to go back to sleep. My wake up song reached the end of the loop and began to replay, causing my hand to automatically roam the bed in search of my phone. I stubbornly refused to open my eyes until the last possible moment and when I finally did, it was gradual so I could allow my eyes to adjust to the light.
Walking over to my closet, I picked out a pair of jeans and black shirt with elastic around the bodice so it could subtly flaunt my curves. Not wanting to seem overdressed, I grabbed my black Chucks and my usual chunky silver bangle before heading to the bathroom for a quick shower and my usual fifteen minute morning ritual. Admittedly ritual is probably not the best word choice for the speed dressing, hair combing, make up applying and teeth brushing that I always had to do simultaneously because I seemed to be perpetually running behind schedule, but it sufficed.
Thankfully with work being a hop, skip and a jump away from the house, getting there on time, even if by the skin of my teeth, was never an issue. As soon as I arrived at work, I immediately began to brew coffee for the few people who stopped by for their morning fix of caffeine. The 7:30 rush lasted all of half an hour before dying down to nothing. With the vast majority of Serenity in church for the next two hours, give or take 15 minutes, it was safe to say the next couple of hours would be boring and uneventful. Of course that didn't mean I wouldn't have customers period, but it did mean that I'd practically have the diner to myself until ten.
Glancing out of the window, I noticed that the once sunny Sunday morning sky was becoming more and more overcast by the minute. I doubt I could have been happier about such an insignificant thing as a change in weather, but there are Sunshine girls and then there are girls like me. My school of thought was that the sun heat allowed yesterday's mistakes to set, whereas the rain washed everything away allowing for a fresh start. A clean slate.
I grabbed a broom and started to sweep any dirt that could potentially be turned into mud into a corner. Just as the first few specks of water appeared on the window front of the diner, I found myself humming and singing "When it Rains" from Paramore. The further into the song I got, the less I hummed and the more I sang. Before I knew it, the song was over; it was raining, and I discovered that I had an audience and a major case of déjà vu. It was the later that distracted me enough to keep my cheeks from staining crimson.
"Huh," he smirked. Much like his first day back, his hair was wet and disheveled. His black jeans and blue plaid button-up shirt definitely did him justice and if not for the second voice that piped up a few seconds later, I might've embarrassed myself by oogling.
"Who knew our little Trinity had a pretty good set of pipes?" An attractive, but familiar man announced.
"Bradley?" I asked with my head tilted slightly in question.
"The one and only," he responded with one of his lady-killer smiles.
"Hey!" I exclaimed as I rushed over to give Flight Risk's bassist a hug, "Long time, no see!" And it really had been a long time. Not nearly as long as I'd gone without seeing Sam, but I had managed to just miss seeing him the last couple of visits.
