Chapter Eleven
For once Rodney found himself having to be the responsible one and tried to coax an unwilling Alex into going to school.
“But we were out so late last night. And my head hurts,” Alex whined. He didn’t want to outright admit that the reason he wanted to play hooky of his own free will for the first time in his academic career was due to the fact that he was afraid of bumping into Casey. Someone he used to couldn’t wait to see.
“Bulls***! You didn’t drink enough to get hung over!” Rodney exclaimed before realizing what he had just said. He hadn’t planned on telling Alex about what he had done last night. He didn’t want to get into a fight with him over ethics. He also didn’t want him to think he was pulling a Casey.
Alex sat up in Rodney’s comfy bed, bringing the blankets up with him, and said, “Excuse me?”
Rodney face palmed with an audible smack and stepped closer to the bed as if getting closer would defuse the small blonde bomb that was sure to detonate. He couldn’t think of a way to back pedal out of that particular slip up, he was too well rested. So instead he told the truth. “Ally Cat you are too naive. I didn’t give you plain Pink Lemonade; it was actually Mike’s Hard Pink Lemonade. They didn’t have anything that was nonalcoholic and I figured after the day you had, it wouldn’t be such a bad thing.”
“You jerk. I can’t believe you did that. I can’t believe I liked it so much. But it makes sense now,” Alex said trailing off in thought. He couldn’t find it in himself to be angrier than he was at Rodney, no matter how hard he tried. He knew if anyone else had pulled that stunt he would be irate, but for some reason he couldn’t help but sort of want to try it again. On purpose next time.
Rodney studied Alex very carefully before speaking, “You don’t actually seem mad. Or are you so mad that you can’t express it? Are we still friends?”
Alex thought for a moment and arrived on the conclusion he wasn’t very mad at all. “No, not friends. Best Friends. Just don’t do anything like that again without my knowledge.”
Rodney felt his face sink until Alex finished talking, then he felt himself blinking unsure of what had just happened. He was sure that he had just witnessed an episode of Invasion of The Body Snatchers, in his very own room. But before he could dwell on it any longer, his phone buzzed on his nightstand bringing his frazzled brain back to reality. He picked it up and stared at it before understanding why his phone was buzzing if he had no text messages; it was his alarm for school. He realized that he still needed to shower and take Alex home so he could do the same.
“Who was that,” Alex asked taking Rodney’s silence the wrong way.
“It wasn’t anyone. It was my alarm for school. We need to get going or we’re going to be late,” Rodney replied rushing around his room to gather the things he would need after he showered.
“Let’s be so late we miss lunch,” Alex suggested halfheartedly, hoping Rodney would agree.
“Ha, ha, Ally Cat, very funny. You know I leave after lunch. Now we promised your mommy you would go to school and you’re going even if I have to pick you up and sling you over my shoulder. That way we can have more sleep overs on school nights.”
Alex sort of giggled and them immediately brushed it off before he relented, “Ugh, fine.” He fluffed the pillow he used last night and leaned back knowing Rodney had to get ready first and would quite possibly take a long while.
