I woke up on the sofa, remote in hand, humming far off in the distance. I quickly sat up, moving my head back and forth, wall to wall. Where was Mack and Ally? What happened? Did I faint or something?

“Good morning ‘hun!” I head Grace’s chipper voice from the side of me. I turned and there she was, bright and happy. Happier than I’ve seen her in a long time. “Gr-Grace?” “Yes dear?” she answered, setting a hot plate of eggs and toast in front of me on the coffee table. “Wh-What happened?” I stuttered. Was that a dream? It was so real!

“You were sleeping?” She said confused. She chuckled. “Maybe it was a bad dream. Too much junk food celebrating last night huh?” She said, winking.

I gave her a weird look and she laughed it off. Then she became serious.

“Honey I am so happy for you. I don’t even want to know what caused this, but it’s here, and that’s all that matters, right? I love you.

” I stared, taken aback by her sudden words.

“I love you too, Auntie.” Grace blushed at her nickname, then went back into the kitchen.

I immediately went back to my thoughts. How could that have been my dream? Was it a sign? From Dad?

I scrunched up my eyebrows, deep in thought. Then Grace yelled something incoherent from the kitchen, pulling me from my predictions. “What?” I half yelled half said. “Your muffing with tree to jerk today!

Ok that sounded perverted.

“I’m muffing a tree? What?”

I heard a bark of laughter, then footsteps. I eyed my aunt as she came into the room, an evil grin plastered on her face. “Your coming with me to work today.”

I gasped. “NO!”

“Yes! You have to! Everyone wants to see you! It’s been years and you might finally remember some people, certain people even.” Grace said emphasizing the word certain.

She wants me to go all because of Jeremy, earning brownie points from the boss. Obviously if he’s back, he’s the boss again, everyone loved him. The company was at its best with him. He told me that old guy was a replacement for a year or two. Why do I keep thinking of explanations? Do I want him back?

“No Grace. I can’t!” I screamed, burying my face in the couch pillow.

More laughter came, then a hand on my back. I jumped in surprise, ripping the pillow away from my eyes. I glared at my aunt. This can’t happen. It won’t! She doesn’t know I used to love him! What if I see him again, then fall back in love? That happens to people, right?

“You won’t fall in love with him again kid. That just doesn’t happen.”

I gave her a flat look. She knew I loved him? Even worse, she can read my thoughts? I thought only super heroes did that...unless..

“Grace are in disguise?!”

“What?” she asked bewildered.

I stared at her. Nah, she’s too old for that. I mean, what is she, like, 40?

“Never mind” I said, still eyeing her.

Grace just laughed and shook her head. “You’re weird, Carson.”

“And your evil” I spat back playfully, making a shocked face. She didn’t find it funny

“Go get dressed. Your going.”

“But Grace-”

“Go” She said, pointing to the stairs.

I mumbled, but obeyed. Well, this should be fun!

Not.
