Ethan
Ethan's POV
Let me get something straight, I don't believe in love. It's stupid and overrated. I honestly want to puke at the thought of it. Love is something made up by writers and followed by the gullible.
Okay, enough about that. My name is Ethan Monterio and I'm sixteen. I live like any teenager does in the house that I hate with the family that I hate and go to the school I hate. Yeah, life is fun.
So yeah, that's me. And it just so happens that this is the worst day of my life.
"Ethan, get your ass down here!" I heard my step father call from downstairs.
"Coming!" I called and threw a shirt on.
Mornings were the worst. And I'm not exaggerating when I say that.
"Where did you put my tie, you little shit." My step dad growled as soon as I got to the bottom of the stairwell.
"It's hanging up in the laundry room." I replied and hoped that it was in there.
I walked into the kitchen and grabbed the box of cereal. My oldest step brother, Carter, snatched the box out of my hand and tipped it so the cereal poured directly in his mouth. He then shook it in front of my face.
"Sorry, none left." He smirked.
Well, I guess I wasn't eating breakfast then.
"Sucks to be you." My other step brother, Sebastian, snickered.
"Bas, let's go." Carter said.
The three of us grabbed out backpacks and walked out the door. They got in the front car while I went to go to the back, but the door was locked.
"Have fun walking to school, faggot." Bastian said as they sped off.
I let out a sigh and began my great journey. If only I didn't have such a shitty family. Then I might actually be going to school in a car right now.
Thank every god out there for my best friend Jay. He was my lord and savior when it came to these things. He pulled up in his car and rolled down the window.
"Get in loser, we're going shopping." He said with a smile.
I climbed in the passenger side and shut the door. The smell of cigarettes was already present which made me roll my eyes.
"You really need to stop smoking at seven in the morning." I told him.
"Thanks for the advice, Mum." He scoffed.
"I'm just telling you the truth. You'll get lung cancer before you're twenty."
"I'm guessing Carter and Bas decided to be complete dickheads again."
"You guessed right, my friend."
"Only two more years and you're free, right? Off to university with hot guys and booze?"
The sinking feeling in my chest returned. I guess it was time to tell him since I'd been hiding it for months on end.
"I'm not going to college." I sighed.
"Why?" He asked, giving me a worried look.
"Look where I'm living, Jay. I'm poor and all my stepdad wants to do is beat me over the head with a pan. Do you really think he's going to pay for college for me?"
"What if you get a scholarship? I mean, I've seen your art, it's amazing. Those snobby admissions people will eat that shit up."
"I'm no better than the next guy. There's no way in hell that I would get in."
"Well, believe in yourself." Jay told me as he parked the car. "You just have to believe the hot British guy who gives you advice."
"You are British but I'd say you're about a seven." I said with a wink.
"Get outta the car before I murk you."
I chucked and got out of the car, rushing towards school before Jay could catch me. I knew this day was already going to be a joy.
