Jay's POV

"I think I'm in love with you." I confess with my heart beating rapidly.

But sadly Ethan is already asleep. Having his head rest on my chest felt so right and I just wanted him to sleep with me every night. I was the only one who could protect him from the harsh world and I was going to do so.

"We're here. What do you want to do about him?" Mom asked.

"I'll carry him if you open the door for me." I said.

She nodded and got out of the car, going to open the front door for me. I scooped Ethan up and my arms and carried him bridal style into the house. He whimpered a bit and buried his face in the crook of my neck as I carefully walked up the stairs. Then I laid him down in my bed and pulled the duvet over him.

"Mmm, Jay..." Ethan mumbled and started to toss and turn.

I closed the door and then got under the duvet with him pulling him into my arms just like in the car. He smelled like a mix of Ocean and vanilla body lotion and his nose scrunched up whenever he looked uncomfortable. I can't believe I had been in love with him for six months and still hadn't told him. When his mom died I was there for him every day to comfort him and that's when our connection grew stronger. But I was nervous he'd figure me out so I said I was straight.

"Mom, don't go... please..." He muttered silently.

"Shh, it's okay, baby." I cooed and rubbed circles into his back as he fidgeted a bit.

"No, please." He begged.

"Ethan."

"Mom!"

"Wake up." I said and shook him.

"NO YOU CAN'T LEAVE ME!" He nearly screamed.

"Ethan!"

He shot up and looked around, strands of his blond hair in his face making it hard for him to see. His eyes fell upon the bed and me, making him look like a confused puppy.

"Jay... what the hell are you doing?" He asked as his breath evened out.

"Don't say anything. Just get over here." I ordered.

He practically jumped into my arms and began to cry into my shoulder. It was nothing I hadn't experienced before but it bothered me to know that he was still having nightmares.

I needed to help make them go away.
