Lunch detention. Those were two words that Mikasa heard often, but not for herself. Until now she had a perfect record. She was completely satisfied, standing up to that sexist pig.
As the bell rang she reported to the ISS room. She already found Eren and Jean bickering over something else. She also found Levi at the front of the room. He sighed.
"Come on in Ackerman," he said looking over at her. His attention was then redirected to the boys. "Oi! Shut up!"
The boys hushed, only to continue nagging each other under their breath. Mikasa sat down away from them and unpacked her lunch.
She started eating and writing out French terms that she knew from ballet class. She had French after lunch, and didn't know how much of her past knowledge she would need.
"You don't need the accent in pas de deux," Levi said, reading over her shoulder. "Everything else is good."
She stopped eating her pasta salad, "I thought there was an accent over the e."
He shook his head, " The letter e often has an accent on it, but this is not one of the times."
Taken back, Mikasa realized that Levi was the gym teacher, how would he know French? Just as she was about to ask him she was hit in the back of the head with a wadded piece of paper.
"Oops, sorry Mikasa," Eren said apologetically.
"No, it's okay," she responded, totally use to his tactics.
"You shouldn't hit your sister like that! You're taking her for granted!" Jean yelled at him and they continued.
Mikasa sighed and finished her pasta. Putting it back in her bag she examined the other boy, Jean. He looked like a nice person, she had to wonder why Eren was fighting with him.
"You're related to him?" Levi asked her.
"No, I was adopted into the Yeager family," she explained. Suddenly coming to her mind, she remembered earlier. "Why did you say that girls can't play sports?"
"It's a test," he said blankly, sipping his drink. "To see who will stand up for the class later."
"Oh," it was just a test. She really didn't get detention, for real anyway.
The lunch bell rang and Mikasa packed up her things. Eren rushed out of the room to go to German, and Mikasa started for French.
Then she saw Jean. She quickly rushed up to him, "I'm sorry for Eren's behavior."
Jean didn't see that coming. He saw her walking, just not to talk, to him. "Think! Say something, anything!" He scolded himself.
"You have, uh really pretty hair," was all he could muster.
"Uh, thanks," she said before entering the French class. That was the same class he had. He had a hard time thinking. She was in the majority of his classes. Him, with her, his dream girl.
He found a desk with his name labeled on a blue post-it note, and he sat down. It was behind the teachers desk, around three seats back by a large window. Mikasa was not near him.
The teacher was the same teacher from lunch detention, he didn't know his name.
The boy in front of him turned around and passed him a paper. It was a test. Jean complained in his mind. A test on the first day?!
"Listen up," the teacher started. "You can call this your pre-test. You can use your phones or whatever to translate if you need to, just answer in French. Make sure you read over the test."
Jean took no time to hesitate wiping out his phone and going to google translate. He snapped a picture of the front page and started translating.
Mikasa on the other hand, red over the test. She saw some words she knew, some she didn't. At the bottom of the last page, there was a note in English.
"Write your name on the front and flip the packet over."
So that's what she did. She looked around the class and saw others running around the room asking questions to their peers.
"You are observant aren't you," Levi asked her. "You are the only one all day to do this correctly."
Mikasa nodded. She was tired, and she was surrounded by noise.
"Alright! That's enough, take your seats!" Levi ordered.
The students clamored to their desks, still talking to each other.
"If you haven't noticed, my name is Levi Ackerman," he said pointing to the board. "I will be monsieur Ackerman to you."
Jean looked over at Mikasa, didn't Levi call her Ackerman earlier?
"I can already tell you that only one of you passed this test, that is, if it were a real test," he continued.
There were many sighs of relief as he mentioned the last part, they were afraid that they had failed their first exam.
"For homework read pages four through six, and do the practice problems," Levi added in before the bell rang.
Jean rushed to catch up with Mikasa, who sat right by the door."Are you related to him?" He asked her. Not because he wanted to know, but it would be weird for her to be adopted into another family if one of her relatives went to her school.
"Nope, I just met him today," she replied.
Mikasa too, was interested in his last name. He introduced himself as Levi to the gym class.
"What class do you have next?" She asked him. She noticed through the first few hours people looked at her strangely when she was walking alone.
"A-are you asking me?" He stuttered. He blushed a deep shade of crimson.
"Yeah," she replied. She didn't know why, but her face was also a shade of pink.
"I have musical theatre," he awkwardly.
"Same here," Mikasa responded. "Do you want to walk with me?" She didn't know if he was more like Sasha, Eren, or Armin, but she wouldn't walk alone.
The walk was stiff and quiet, and Jean decided that he had to come up with something to do.
What would he say? He had no idea what to say to a vision.
All class he kept looking over at her thinking of what to say or do. He has nothing. He didn't even hear what musical the class would be doing.
The rest of the day went by quickly, when he walked home with Marco he was almost running.
"Why are you so energetic today?" Marco asked?
But Jean just couldn't stop smiling.
