I made my way back to the warehouse and walked over to Eva. She was looking at the blood samples through a microscope, almost completely lost in the work. I knocked on the desk and she practically jumped from her spot.
"Don't do that, Kyle!" She hit my shoulder with a book and sighed. "When did you get here?? How long were you just watching me do this?"
"I just walked into the door like 30 seconds ago, and then knocked on the desk," I said as I sat down. "You're the one that jumped. And really, I should be the one to be jumpy. God knows what the hell is wrong with my body now..."
"Well..." She said, then looked at the blood samples again. "That's the thing. Look at this." I stood up and looked through the microscope. "This is the blood sample from Michael Vincent, before he burned himself to death." I looked at the blood sample, then looked at the DNA inside.
"What in the hell...?" I looked closer and saw the DNA strands. They were switching around and connecting to different strands, burning the unused fragments. I zoomed out and saw the blood cells themselves were burning themselves up, until there was almost nothing left.
"I found high traces of the compound I found in the grenade fragment inside of Michael's blood. Whatever the compound is, it's somehow fusing the molecules of elements into the DNA of people. Michael got fire..."
"And the singer to that band the day of the incident... Titan hit him with a grenade," I said as I sighed. "But what about my blood?" I asked and looked at Eva. She sighed and slid my blood under the microscope. I took a look at it but... something was wrong. "Nothing's wrong with it. It looks... normal."
"Exactly. And I did some digging into it, and it's connected to your blood type," Eva said, but I looked at her with a confused look.
"My blood type?" I asked. "What's that got anything to do with it?"
"That's the thing," She said. "You have an extremely rare blood type known as hh, and the compound in the grenade fragment can't keep a hold of it. Almost as if you're entirely immune to whatever this is."
"Well, that's one thing I'll consider a good thing," I said as I moved away from the microscope. "Okay, so what? We take some of my blood and make it into some sort of serum?"
"If only it were that easy," Eva said as she sighed. "Hh blood cells can't interact properly with any blood cells other than your own. Even if we were to put it into some sort of serum, it wouldn't work." I sighed from the stress of all this scientific talk and sat down. "However, if I can reverse engineer the compound, I could possibly create an injection serum to counteract the effects of the compound that gave these people the powers in the first place."
I nodded and looked at the blood samples on the table. "But first we need to know why Veronnus Corps even wanted this to happen. It just doesn't add up, why give all these random people these powers and set them free?" I asked, but I was interrupted by a broadcast that Eva had going on. She quickly moved to her monitors and gasped.
"Hey Kyle, I think you'll be able to get the answer to your question after all." Eva waved me over and I looked at the screen. It showed some kid running away through the alleys while a male with a dark forest green jacket and long black hair wrapped into a sloppy ponytail chased him down. The chaser seemed to have pale skin, almost like he had something wrong with him, and he rushed the kid down. The kid had to be at least 16 years old, but he was dripping something from his body. It almost looked... poisonous.
"Where is this being broadcast from?" I asked as I stood up straight and got ready for a fight.
"Uhh..." Eva quickly checked and told me, "An alley near 5th and Coroner Street." I quickly rushed out of the warehouse and made my way down to the alleyways near those streets. As I hid in the shadows, I saw the kid run past.
