"I can't believe you're partners with Arabella." Michael said, his feet resting on the cafeteria table as he leaned back on his chair. Luke smiled proudly as he picked at his sandwich.

"Seriously, give me some of your luck." Calum commented.

"So she's coming to my house this whole week." Luke added, praising the heavens, followed by hoots and whistles from the other boys. "Great, you gotta turn her straight, bro. We're all counting on you." Ashton hollered, as he looked to the sandy blonde girl, sitting a few tables away from them.

"Yeah, the fact that you guys are actually counting on me for the first time in my life gives me crippling anxiety." Luke stated, pursing his lips.

"Get used to it, buddy. You basically put yourself in this situation." Ashton shrugged.

The rest of the lunch period was basically just the boys eyeing Arabella creepily, followed by constant bickering.

"Lucas!" Arabella chirped, sprinting to Luke, who was sitting on a bench outside of the school. "It's just Luke." He frowned at the brown-eyed girl.

He had been waiting all afternoon for Arabella, who was nowhere to be found.

"Oh, well- listen, I'm sorry, I had some things to take care of." She explained in between breaths. "Yeah. New kid stuff." She shrugged.

"It's fine. Can we just go? It's going to get dark soon." Luke mumbled, standing up from the bench whilst grabbing his things. Arabella nodded, following behind him.

"Is your place far from here?" She asked, as she walked beside him. Luke shook his head. "Great, because it's getting cold as hell." She commented, rubbing her hands together for warmth.

He figured she was cold, since she was wearing a skirt and a crop top. Who wouldn't be cold in that ensemble? Well, Luke didn't know, of course, because he's never worn anything like that, but still.

"Would it be really cliché if I gave you my sweater?" Luke questioned after a few moments of silence. Arabella chuckled, nodding her head.

"Yeah, it definitely would be." She added.

"Okay, we're literally like 3 minutes away." Luke chirped, jogging ahead, Arabella following behind.

"Here we are." He said, strolling into his driveway and up the steps of his porch, pulling out his keys from his pocket.

He fumbled with them as he pushed the key into the hole, twisting to unlock the door.

"Casa de Luke." He remarked as the stepped through the doorframe. "Nice." Arabella said, as she looked at her surroundings.

Luke's house was quaint and simple. His mom never liked the interior design of modern homes, so she decorated it to her specific liking. The walls were a shade of beige, with white accents at the top, near the ceilings. The windows were draped with long curtains in a shade of olive, and the sofa in his living room were cream colored, with accented pillows to match the rest of the colors in his house.

"We can work in my room." He said, slipping his shoes off and kicking them to the side, showing off his gingerbread man socks. "Nice socks." Arabella commented, following his actions.

"Thanks." He replied, wandering into his kitchen where his mom stood at the counter, with a bowl of salad in her arms.

"Hey mum," He smiled, giving her a peck on the cheek. "Hi Sweetheart," She replied, doing the same. "Who's this beautiful lady?" She beamed.

"This is Arabella." Luke said awkwardly, his mom pushing past him to hug Arabella.

"Oh-" Arabella spoke, as she was pulled into a hug by his mom. She pulled away, smiling. "I'm Luke's mum, but you can call me Liz."

"Yeah, mum, we're just going to go upstairs." Luke said, tugging Arabella's wrist. "It's okay, Liz, you can just call me Bella." Arabella smiled before disappearing out of the kitchen with Luke.

"Your mum is cute." She giggled as Luke tugged her up the stairs, his footsteps heavy. He mumbled something, but Arabella couldn't make out what it was, so she dismissed it.

He pulled her into his room and closed the door behind her, throwing his bag onto his bed.

"You can sit anywhere," He said, plopping himself into his desk chair and opening his laptop. Arabella shrugged before climbing onto his bed. She pulled out her notebook and a pen, and her laptop.

"I was thinking about the project today in class and I think I have a playlist in mind." She remembered as she clicked through some pages on her laptop.

"So do I." Luke remarked, sliding over to her, without managing to fall over in his seat.

Smooth moves, Luke. He thought, smirking to himself.

"Woah, okay, too close." She said, pushing him a small distance from her.

Ah, fuck, spoke too soon. He frowned.

"Here," She continued, handing him her laptop, which had a playlist open on Spotify. He scanned the list, most of the songs he knew, which made him kind of thankful that they had almost the same taste in music because it gave him something to talk about if the room ever got quiet. Or something he could at least try to talk about, without stuttering.

"These are good songs." He commented. "Thanks," Arabella smiled, taking her laptop back from his hands.

"I guess we're done? For now at least." She quizzed, shutting off her laptop and stuffing it into her backpack. "Yeah." He shrugged, doing the same.

"It's getting late. I should head home soon." She noted, looking at the time on his alarm clock that sat next to his bed. "Yeah, I could drive you." He replied, grateful that he finally had a reason for his mom to let him behind the wheel.

Liz didn't really trust Luke driving because she knew how clumsy he was, and how bad his sight was at night, so she didn't want to risk anything. So ultimately, he ended up not being able to drive at all, unless he had a valid reason to.

He didn't like driving because he was globally conscious and walking to school was only a 15 minute walk. And it wasn't like Luke was in a hurry to go anywhere else, because really, when did he ever go out besides school, work, and home?

They sauntered down the stairs, strolling into the kitchen where Liz had already prepared dinner and set the table.

"Oh, just in time." She announced, pulling out a chair before sitting herself on it. "I was just going to drop her home, so-" Luke said, cut off by his mother, who knit her brows together in annoyance. "Luke Robert, don't be so rude. Bella is our guest. You know better than to chase them away without even offering them to stay for dinner."

Luke stood uncomfortably as he looked to Arabella, who shrugged.

He felt as he looked.

So when he sat there, as his mother chat with one of the hottest girls in his school, who was a lesbian, with a grimace on his face, he felt annoyed with himself. He didn't know exactly why. He just was.

And he also couldn't stop staring at her as she smiled. That's also part of the reason he was annoyed.
