The motel door opens slowly to reveal a very beaten and bloodied Sam, lock-pick in hand. Dean quickly stands from his sitting position on one of the beds to face the brother he hasn't seen in who knows how long... too long. His temper flares to disguise the relief and fear struggling to surface.

"Sam-"

"Dean, I'm sorry," Sam cuts him off, stepping in and letting the door shut behind him, his lock-pick finding its way back to his pocket.

There are tears in the younger Winchester's eyes and as the two just stand there, staring at each other in silence, the tears begin to fall. At first slowly and quietly, but soon they turn into a waterfall accompanied by shoulder-shaking sobs.

Sam's breaking.

Dean, not wanting his baby brother to end up like him, steps forward and gathers him up in a hug, attempting to hold the cracking pieces together. Sam clings to Dean; lets the tears fall. The two brothers stand, embracing and trying to forget all that's happened.

Desperate to comfort him, Dean slowly rubs circles on Sam's back, almost like how their mom would... but Sam doesn't remember. All he remembers is a time or two when they were a lot younger and Dean would do this to comfort him when he got scared. Sam only tightens his grip on his big brother. Slowly his tears subside and his breathing steadies. Still, the brothers don't release their grip on one another. Dean is searching for some way to lighten the mood and make Sam smile again.

Suddenly, Dean turns his face towards Sam's and jabs his nose into his brother's cheek. Sam jerks away in surprise and the two tumble onto the motel bed, breaking the hug completely. The two chuckle and sit up. They share a warm smile that travels back to the days of their childhood when they would cause trouble together.

"Good to have you back," Dean says softly.

"Good to be home," Sam replies, just above a whisper.
