The latest case had the boys staying in a lodge up in the mountains somewhere. It'd been a fairly easy case and the boys wrapped it up the night before. It was late morning and Sam was still out cold, snoring lightly. Dean lay awake, staring at the wooden ceiling and listening to his brother breathe.
He didn't sleep much anymore.
He'd been awake for a few hours already, just laying on his back and staring at the beams above his head like they held all the answers. Finally, he got tired of laying there and sat up. He looked down at his blue plaid pajama pants and gray t-shirt, contemplating whether-or-not he needed to put on real clothes to go get food.
Deciding clothes were over-rated, he left the room in his pajamas, not even bothering to put shoes on. He could hear soft piano music as he ambled down the short hallway and padded down the flight of stairs to the lodge's main room. In the corner opposite the stairs, there was a beautiful grand piano. At the piano, a dark-haired man in an old trench coat caressed the keys, drawing out the sweetest melody.
Dean paused at the bottom of the stairs and looked at the man, not believing the sight before him. His usually rigid and stiff angel friend was relaxed and seemed to flow with the music he played. Dean slowly walked over to Cas, mesmerized. Cas stopped abruptly when Dean was only a few feet away and stood to face him.
"Dean," he said in his gruff voice.
"Cas, I didn't know you could play," Dean's voice was gravelly and he just stared at the always disheveled Cas.
"I learned a bit from Gabriel," Cas replied softly.
"Well... you're, uh... that sounded... good," Dean stumbled over his words.
"Thank you," Cas blushed a little.
He'd never shared this with anyone before, and hehadn't planned to share it with Dean. And yet, he was glad that Dean knew now.
