I started putting the dishes in the dishwasher while Callie got Sofia ready for bed. Callie made Spaghetti and Meat balls, which was really great. I smiled. She usually didnt cook, but when she did it was good.
I walked down the hall to our bedroom. I sat down on the bed and took off my prosthetic and crawled under the covers. Callie came in with Sofia.
"Kiss Momma goodnight, Sof." Callie smiled and Sofia kissed my cheek.
"Good night baby girl" I kissed her forehead.
"Night Momma" Sofia yawned as Callie carried her out of the room to Sofia's bed. She came back a couple minutes later.
"She asleep already?" I smiled and Callie nodded.
"Out like a light." She crawled into bed next to me and wrapped her arms around me. I smiled.
"Shes a tiny human. No. Shes our tiny human. And they get tired quickly sometimes" I turned my head and looked at Callie. She was smiling.
"She is our tiny human" she smiled and kissed me. I kissed her back softly. I felt a hand go over my stomach and pulled back alittle and shook my head.
"You need sleep and I need sleep. We look like were half dead...maybe tomorrow." I kissed her cheek, and rolled over onto my side. She wrapped an arm around me and pulled me close to her. I smiled and let myself drift into a deep sleep.
******I looked around. I was in the hospital conference room. Callie's dad next to me.
'I want to take her home. She doesn't want to go. What happened to that little girl I raised?" He was looking out the window. I took a deep breath.
"Most people think I was named for the state, but it's not true. I was named for a battle ship. The U.S.S. Arizona. My grandfather was serving on the Arizona when the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor, and he saved 19 men before he drowned. Pretty much everything my father did his whole life was about honoring that sacrifice. I was raised to be a good man in a storm. Raised me to love my country. To love my family. To protect the things I love. When my father - Colonel Daniel Robbins, the United States Marine Corp - heard that I was a lesbian, he said he had only one question. I was prepared for, "How fast can you get the hell out of my house?" But instead, it was, "Are you still who I raised you to be?" My father believed in country the way that you believe in God. And my father is not a man who bends, but he bent for me because I'm his daughter. I'm a good man in a storm. I love your daughter. And I protect the things that I love. Not that I need to. She doesn't need it. She's strong, and caring, and honorable. She's who you raised her to be." I looked at him. He then looked at me with respect and care. Not a word was said. I knew he would try then. He saw respect for me. And he started to care.
Then the next thing I knew i was in our apartment with my parents and Callie's parents. I could tell her mother didn't want to be there. She didn't accept the idea of Callie and I being together let alone getting Married.
"mom you want to hold Sofia?" Callie tried to hand her, Sofia.
"No, its quite alright, dear..." she said. I could tell that she didn't care. I sighed.********
I sat straight up in bed. I was breathing alittle heavy. I figured it out. The little speech I told Callie's dad. That's my key.
"I figured it out." I said alittle to loud than a whisper. Callie opened her eyes.
"You okay?" She was still half asleep. I looked at her.
"I figured out how to win your mother over, Calliope." I kissed her cheek.
"That's great, Arizona..." she managed to say as she fell back asleep.
